Elvira Barbosa Arias

Elvira Barbosa Arias passed away on Dec. 25, 2021, at the age of 53, at home.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1968 in the Philippines. She was a seafood clerk at Safeway in Kapa‘a.

She was preceded in death by mother Victorina Barbosa, grandparents Rodolfo and Lorenza Barbosa and Enoc Arias and Esperanza Barbero.

She is survived by father and stepmother Ernesto and Cleotilde Arias, brother Victorino (Marites) Arias of Lihu‘e, sisters Crisanta (Marites) Penullar of the Philippines, Leonora (Marvin) Guiam of Singapore, Irma Arias of Lihu‘e, Elma Arias (Reynaldo) of Lihu‘e, Jasmin Arias of Lihu‘e and Gracelle (Julius) Llego of Kapa‘a, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be announced at a later date.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joseph S. DeSilva

Joseph S. DeSilva, 91, of Koloa, passed away at Hale Kapuna Heritage Home on Dec. 22, 2021. He was born in Kona, Hawai‘i on June 23, 1930, and worked at Duarte’s Tires for a number of years as a mechanic and tire-changer before retiring.

He was preceded in death by wife Diana Flores DeSilva.

He is survived by sons Richard Sanchez-Troche, David DeSilva and Jerry (Eudora) DeSilva, daughter Sandra Perez, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother Bernard DeSilva, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is Thursday, Jan. 6, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home, with graveside services beginning at 10 a.m. Social distancing will be observed, and masks are required.
