Pierre ‘Papa’ Pavao

Pierre “Papa” Pavao passed away on May 24, 2022, at the age of 65. He was born on Nov. 15, 1956, in Lihu‘e. He was a taro farmer and plumber.

He was preceded in death by parents John Pavao Sr., Paul Sun Kwong Say and Marianne Pavao, and brothers Earl Pavao and John Pavao Jr.

He is survived by wife Julie Yadao Constantino Pavao, son Pierre Makana (Alethia) Pavao, daughter Kalili (Kaulu) Pavao, mother Barbara Jean Say, sisters Keala (Jerry) Pavao-Tittle and Johnelle Leina‘ala (Sean) Pavao-Jardin, brothers William (Regina) Pavao, Paul Say, Byron Say, David (Janice) Pavao and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Ronald C. Refamonte

Ronald C. Refamonte passed away on May 15, 2022, at the age of 74, in Hanapepe.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1947, in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from the state of Hawai‘i.

He was preceded in death by father Tomas Refamonte, mother Leoncia Cuyo, brothers Thomas Refamonte Jr., Jerry Refamonte and Timothy Cuyo, and sisters Jean Refamonte Redira and Doris Refamonte.

He is survived by wife Koren Ishiki Refamonte, sons Ronald Boy Refamonte Jr. of Wailua, Ryan Refamonte of Wailua and Riley (Noelani) Refamonte of Kekaha, daughters Stacy Refamonte of Hanapepe and Ashley (Stanton) Yoshimori of Puhi, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters Janet (Domingo) Largusa of Lihu‘e, Pearl (Raymond) Awana of Kane‘ohe and Beverly Cuyo of Honolulu, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service is Saturday, June 25, at Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and services follow at 10 a.m. The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Earl D. Hunter

Earl D. Hunter passed away on April 5, 2022, at the age of 76, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 30, 1945 in Honolulu. He was an architect with over 28 years experience in construction project management.

During the Vietnam War, he was a construction officer for the U.S. Navy Seabees in Danang, Vietnam, Morocco and Puerto Rico. He was also an architect for the state of Hawai‘i Department of Accounting and General Services Design, Construction Branch, and Hawai‘i Community Development Authority as a construction manager. He also worked for other contractors before starting his own business in 1999.

He was preceded in death by wife Patricia Hunter, father Earl Hunter Sr. and mother Ichiko Hunter.

He is survived by fiancée DeAnna Starinieri, son Scot (Maxine) Hunter of Long Beach, California, brother Carl “Bo” Hunter of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service is Saturday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. The Lions Club will be honoring him with a presentation for service. The family suggests donations can be made to District 50 Lions Club Foundation and/or Wilcox Medical Center Foundation. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Randy Michael Wong

Randy Michael Wong of Honolulu passed away on March 20, 2022, at the age of 61. He was born on Dec. 4, 1960. He was a retired journeyman roofer, an avid University of Hawai‘i sports fan and a true Kapa‘a High School Warrior.

He is survived by his lifelong partner Deborah Tada of O‘ahu, daughter Roslyn (Preston) Carvalho of Pearl City, Oahu, one grandchild, mother Juliet Garcia, father Clifford (Lani) Wong of Anahola, sisters Holly Zahn and Buffy Tabayoyon, and numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is Saturday, June 11 at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation is from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m.

Henry Yoshinori
Nishikawa Sr.

Henry Yoshinori Nishikawa Sr. passed away on May 27, 2022, at the age of 84, in Lihu‘e. He was born on Oct. 9, 1937 in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by parents Masanori and Yoshiko Nishikawa and brother Ed Nishikawa.

He is survived by wife Ann Nishikawa, son Henry (Debbie) Nishikawa Jr. of Kapa‘a, daughters Apryle (Randy) Obatake of Lihu‘e and Deneen (Rolen) Macadangdang of Hanama‘ulu, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brother Herbert Nishikawa of Lihu‘e, sisters Bessie Fukushima of Lihu‘e and Frances Galdeira of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held at a later date.

Marciana Juan Maluyo

Marciana Juan Maluyo passed away on May 17, 2022, in Waimea. She was born on May 24, 1930 in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a part-time teacher.

She was preceded in death by husband Silverio Maluyo, parents Catalino and Gregoria Juan, brothers Arturo Juan, Fermin Juan, Romeo Juan and Elpidio Juan, sister Dolores J. Narciso, brother-in-law Pedro Narciso, and sister-in-law Francisca Juan.

She is survived by brother Quirino (Rosita) Juan of Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Wednesday, June 22, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
