Charles Melandish

Charles Melandish, 97, left this world peacefully on Feb. 15, 2024. He was born in Ko‘olau, Kaua‘i on April 20,1926. He was a lineman with Kaua‘i Electric and served in the Hawaiian National Guard.

He was preceded in passing by his parents Charles and Emma Melandish, daughter Adela Imaoka, grandson Travis Melandish, granddaughter Jayda Mundon, great-grandson Cody Uyehara, brothers Issac Melandish, Joseph “Joe” Melandish, sisters Florence “Pua” Albao, Salome Wong and Emma Oda.

Charles is survived by Pearl Melandish, daughters Ivy (Gary) Gatiuan, Jan (Calvin) Wada, Faith (Malcom Oyamot) Melandish, Tammy (Daniel) Manaku, Tanya (Troy) Ichinose, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held by the family.

The family would like to thank Kaua‘i Hospice and Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens who assisted the family with arrangements.

Marvin Anthony Moura

Marvin Anthony Moura, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 26, 2024, in Kapa‘a at the age of 72. He was born on July 5, 1951, in Waimea. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Kaua‘i Police Officer. He was known for his beautiful gardens and his love of nature.

He was preceded in death by father Clarence Joseph Moura and mother Helen Kala Duarte Moura.

He is survived by son Blake Moura of Kapa‘a, daughter Megan Moura of O‘ahu, brothers Clarence Moura Jr., Jonathan Moura, Kenny Moura, sister Antoinette Moura, cat Willie Nelson, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Military Honors and memorial at 11 a.m. Potluck and a celebration of Marvin’s life after service location to be announced. The family requests casual attire.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

George Morishita

George Morishita passed on Feb. 18, 2024, at 92. His many experiences included being incarcerated in the Manzanar War Relocation camp, seeing a live performance of Billy Holiday and receiving her smile, working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, volunteering at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, seeing the Dalai Lama, tai chi and nordic walking in Kealia. He was a fighter for the underprivileged and had a smile like a sunbeam.

He was preceded in passing by wife Setsuko.

He is survived by son Corey and daughter Maya.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Derek ‘Dehn’ McDonald Graves

Derek “Dehn” McDonald Graves passed away at home on Feb. 4, 2024, at the age of 56. He was born on Nov. 21, 1967, in Walnut Creek, California.

He was preceded in death by father Darrell Graves and sister Kirsten Salmon.

He is survived by mother Patricia Graves and many relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
