Mary Lee Slisher

Mary Lee Slisher, 81, of Hanalei, passed away at the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on May 25, 2019. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 2, 1937, and was co-owner of Haena Home and Property Care.

She was preceded in death by mother Leitha Miller, stepfather Milton Miller, and children Sherry and Alvin.

She is survived by husband Doug Slisher, sons Mike, John and Charles (Kathy) Reid, daughter Terry (Dick) Lane, brother Jerry Miller, and sister Doris Jenkins.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

David Kalakaua Ching

David Kalakaua Ching, 54, of Aloha, Oregon, passed away in Kapaa on July 16, 2019. He was born on Oahu on May 29, 1965, and was a manager of Civil Commitment and State Hospital Liaisons of the Community Health Plan of Washington.

He was preceded in death by parents Merlin “Sonny” and Jacklyne Ching, and brother Randall Ching.

He is survived by wife Joanie Ching, daughter Jamie (Kyle Parham) Stuckenschneider, son Haven Ching, sisters Dione (Bruce) Hulen, Terry (Joe) Crinch and Catherine Johnson, brother Peter Wilmoth, mother-in-law Reenie Christensen, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Aurea Laymon

Aurea Laymon of Kapaa passed away on July 12, 2019, at the age of 90. Born on July 19, 1928 on Kauai, she was a retired activities director.

She was preceded in death by parents Esteban and Fortunata Largusa, and husband Philip Laymon.

She is survived by sons Patrick (Noreen) Caycayon, Jerry (Iris) Caycayon and Bruce Laymon, daughters Linda (Gilbert) Miles, Joni Youn and Phyllis (Stuart) Wellington, daughter-in-law Norma Estrada, brother Domingo (Janet) Largusa, sisters Loretta (Ken) Goode and Elaine Prebula, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 9, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
