Angela Lorraine Tavares

Angela Lorraine Tavares of Kalaheo passed away on Jan. 5, 2020, at the age of 93, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home.

Born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Eleele, she was a retired housekeeper at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Frances Moura, husband Joseph Tavares Jr., son Joseph Sidney Tavares, brother Clarence Moura and grandson Wallace Michael Tavares.

She is survived by sons Wallace “Wally” (Dinah) Tavares and Thomas “Tommy” Tavares, brothers Wallace (Violet) Moura and Albert (Dorothy) Moura, sister Frances Freitas, grandchildren Warren (Tasha) Tavares and David (Monica) Tavares, and great-grandchildren Hunter, Shaelyn, Jadynn, Chole, Cali Tavares and Jaysha and Jayann Hualama.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Adelaide Montemayor

Adelaide Montemayor passed away on Jan. 15, 2020, at Kauai Care Center, at the age of 90. She was born on July 16, 1929, in Kaumakani. She was a chamber maid at the Kauai Surf Hotel.

She was preceded in death by husband John Galvez Montemayer Sr., daughter Kathleen Joyce Carter, parents Pantaleon and Auria Mayor, and great-granddaughter Braylee Aiko Romano.

She is survived by sons Glenn Montemayor of Hanapepe and John Montemayor Jr. of Hanapepe, daughter Grace Ishikawa of Hanapepe, grandchildren Elton, Guy, Kelliie, Derrick and Aaron Montemayor and Shelcie, Kevin and Travis Kailikini, great-grandchildren Lacie, Lacin, Taylor, Harlee, Layne, Amaya and Brayden Montemayor, Jordyn and Justin Fune, Bronson, Kaulawena, Ha‘aheo, Logan and Noah Kailikini, and great-great-grandchild Krixus Jon Nunes.

Services are Monday, Jan. 27, at the Church of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Waimea, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.

The family suggests casual attire.

Carmen Pia Rivera

Carmen Pia Rivera passed away on Jan. 11, 2020, in Waimea, at the age of 63. She was born on Jan. 9, 1957, in Lihue, and awas a licensed practical nurse.

She was preceded in death by parents Pedro Agustin Visitacion and Pia Cadabona, brother Marcy Visitacion and sister Trinidad Visitacion.

She is survived by husband Roland B. Rivera, daughters Rachael (Nathan) Rivera-Wong of Seattle, Crystal (Richard) Kalauawa of Lawai, grandchildren Noah Wong, Maya Wong, Emma Wong, Ela Kalauawa and Aria Kalauawa, and sister Esther (JR) Estes of Waimea.

Services will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Friday, Feb. 7, with visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a celebration of life at 6:30 p.m.

The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

John Vegas Sr.

John Vegas Sr., passed away peacefully at home in Kailua on Jan. 13, 2020. Born on July 25, 1937, in Koloa, he served in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

He is survived by wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Vegas, children Jeffrey (Kerena) Vegas, Johnna Vegas, John (Lisa) Vegas Jr., Jennifer Vegas, Jocelyn (Thomas) Awong, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Valley of the Temples Mortuary on Oahu, with visitation at 10:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and burial at 1 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.

Leonora Bolo Alejado Alama

Leonora Bolo Alejado Alama, 85, of Kekaha, passed away at Hale Kapuna Heritage Home on Jan. 17, 2020. She was born in Makaweli on June 1, 1934, and was a dedicated homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children, Victoriano Villatora, second husband Richard K. Alama, son Lee Anson Villatora, and grandson Samuel Luczon.

She is survived by children Christopher (Diana) Villatora, Geneva Villatora, Leonora (Norman) Luczon, Peter (Jennifer) Villatora, Cecelia (Richard) Gomez, Joseph (Hidemi) Villatora, Robert Villatora, Philip Villatora, Victoria (Nelson) Gabriel, Jon (Theresa) Villatora, Bernadette (Steve) Altizer, Christine (Mark) Aqui, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Dana Lagmay, sister Georgia Blom (Lagmay), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 1, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Lesli Ryze Ke‘eai Keao‘aloha Annette Maka-Harris

Lesli Ryze Ke‘eai Keao‘aloha Annette Maka-Harris, infant daughter of Kyra Maka and Joey Harris of Haena, passed away at Kapiolani Hospital on Dec. 30, 2019.

She was born on Dec. 21 2019.

She is survived by brothers Iokepa Texeira-Harris, Silis Texeira-Harris and Murphy Maka III, and sisters Alena Texeira Harris and Kehakeha Maka-Lawhead.

A celebration of life will be held in a joint service with her uncle Jacob Maka on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Waioli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei at 10 a.m.

A scattering of ashes will take place at Hanalei Pier at a later date.

Jacob Maka

Jacob Iacoba “Moody” Maka lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 9, 2019. He was born on July 29, 1958.

He was a groundskeeper at the Princeville Makai Golf Course for 32 years. He was also in the Army National Guard for several years, stationed in Ft. Bennington, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by parents Murphy Kuaihealani Maka Sr. and Rebecca Ka‘aumoana, sister Henrietta Bond, brother Keith “Fetta” Maka, and sisters-in-law Lesli Maka and Linda Kanahele.

He is survived by brothers Murphy “Bobo” (Ann Marie) Maka Jr. and Sherman K. Maka, hanai brother Ed Hayes, sister Jollyann Mahuiki, nieces Kyra (Joey) Maka, Liana, Ashlee Bond and Mohala Bond, nephew Jacob (Sierra) Bond, grandnieces Kulani, Naia, Kaui, Ala and Kila Maka-Adric, Kehakeha Maka-Lawhead, Kairah and Kaysia Lorenzana-Maka, Xia Maka-Bond and Lyrical Nago, and grand-nephews Murphy Maka III, Konane Maka and Ashton Wada.

A celebration of life will be held in a joint service with grandniece Lesli Ryze Ke‘eai Keao‘aloha Annette Maka-Harris on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Waioli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei, at 10 a.m.

Donald Saburo Kagawa

Donald Saburo Kagawa of Kauai passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2020.

Born on Sept. 16, 1943, to the late Ernest Kagawa and Mildred Ferguson, he was a U.S. Army veteran, attorney, carpenter and teacher.

He is survived by daughters Tracy (Russell) Fu, Wailana (Delissa) Dasalia-Duarte, Kanani Kagawa Fu and Kealoha (Ryan) Snow, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many beloved cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m., and services and Mass to follow.

Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Aaliyah-Rose Ramos Pasa

Baby Aaliyah-Rose Ramos Pasa passed away on Jan. 18, 2020, at the age of 1 month, 3 weeks. She was born on Nov. 27, 2019, in Lihue.

She was preceded in death by great-grandfather Crescencio Ramos Jr.

She is survived by parents Alana Ramos and Guyson Stevens Pasa, grandparents Elizabeth Llego, Larrinette and Kelly Pasa, great-grandparents Rebecca and Crescencio Ramos St., Catalina Haban and Elpidio Llego

Services will be held at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with family-only viewing from 10 to 10:30 a.m., public visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m., and celebration of life at 11 a.m.

Gary Itokazu

Gary Itokazu, 82, of Lihue, passed away on Jan. 15, 2020. He was born on Kauai on Nov. 5, 1937.

He was preceded in death by wife Violet Itokazu.
