Pedro Patrick Baniaga
Pedro Patrick Baniaga passed away on Dec. 11, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center.
He was born on March 29, 1947, in Waimea, and served in the U.S Army.
He was a purchasing supervisor and worked at Budget Rent a Car.
He was preceded in death by father Pedro Pete Ramos Baniaga, grandfather Apolonio Baniaga, grandmother Maria Ramos Baniaga, and wife Evelyn Suku Baniaga.
He is survived by sons Sanoe (Lani) Baniaga of Kaumakani and Patrick “Patches” (Xiani) Baniaga of Kaumakani, companion Carol Apilado of Kekaha, grandchildren Sum-Yee, Maikoa, Maika, Makaio, and Railee Baniaga, mother Consuelo “Connie” Baniaga, sister Marianne (Mark) Lipward of Vermillion, South Dakota, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Hanapepe senior softball field next to Hanapepe Stadium, with family visitation from 9 to 11 a.m.
Robert ‘Bob’ and Andrea Speer
Robert and Andrea Speer of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2019 (Bob, 89) and Nov. 23, 2019 (Andrea, 96). Bob was born on December 13, 1929 in Booneville, Arkansas, and Andrea was born on March 1, 1923 in Lihue.
They are survived by many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Torrance on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Memorial Rice Center, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, California.
Flora Gomes Duarte
Flora Gomes Duarte passed away on Nov. 5, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on March 29, 1930 on Kauai, she was a senior secretary for 45 years at Olokele Sugar Company.
She was preceded in death by husband David Frank Duarte, parents Manuel and Albina Gomes, sisters Helen Jordan, Clara Jardin, Dorothy Rita, Margie Vidinha, Laura Duarte and Miriam Rita, and brother Manuel Gomes Jr.
She is survived by son Douglas (Roberta) Duarte of Washington, daughters Sylvia Duarte of California and Deedee (Vance) Tanaka of Eleele, sister Alice Palmeira of Wailua, grandchildren Robyn (Spencer) Jenkins Weber of Washington and Kiana (Kaleb Kaiwi) Tanaka of Eleele, and great-grandchild Kelly Weber of Washington.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation from 8 to 9 a.m. and a celebration of life at 9 a.m. An inurnment will be held at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
Dorothea Suan Agustin
Dorothea Suan Agustin, 86 of Lihue, passed away on Dec. 12, 2019, at Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu. She was born on Feb. 5, 1933, in Puhi, and retired from F.W. Woolworth.
She was preceded in death by beloved husband Demetrio L. Agustin, parents Jose and Filomena Suan, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by children Jo Ann (Alan) Ellis of Mililani and Dean (Candace Castillo) Agustin of Lihue, granddaughters Alyssa (Miguel) Marti of Fairfax, Virginia and Lauren and Dayna Agustin of Lihue, great-grandsons Demetrio and Dominic Marti, sisters Mary Oshima and Elizabeth (Roger) Batara of Honolulu and Josie (Jose) Gatiuan of Wailua, and brother Lawrence Suan of Mililani.
A funeral mass and celebration of life will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.

Mary J. Cabral
Mary J. Cabral passed away on Dec. 18, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 86.
She was born on March 31, 1933, in Waimea.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Ernest R. Cabral, and sons Ernest W. Cabral and John Larry Cabral.
She is survived by hanai son Larry (Laura) Cabral of Washington, son Rodney Cabral of Las Vegas, daughter Donna (Todd) Caberto, caregiver of Kalaheo, hanai daughter Michelle (Wynson) Rapacon of Wailua, grandchildren Doreen Caberto, Merrick Caberto, Brandon, Kaylyn and Brondson Cabral, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with services at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Kaname ‘Bob’ Kataoka
Kaname “Bob” Kataoka, 101, of Kapaa, passed away at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Dec. 28, 2019. He was born in Paia, Maui, on Oct. 21, 1918, and retired as a teacher at Kauai High School.
He was preceded in death by wife Mitsue Y. Kataoka, brothers Isamu Kataoka and Masao Kataoka, and sister Tsuruko Yamato.
He is survived by daughters Joy (Jim Patton) Kataoka and Amy Boyd, granddaughter Kimi Patton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of the lives of Kaname “Bob” Kataoka and Mitsue Y. Kataoka will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.

Mitsue Y. Kataoka
Mitsue Y. Kataoka, 97, of Kapaa, passed away at home on June 3, 2019. She was born in Kapaa on Dec. 1, 1921, and was a teacher at Wilcox Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by parents Umajiro and Matsu Yukimura and sisters Hisayo Akama, Chiyoko Kato and Yuriko Nanbu.
At the time of her passing, she was survived by her husband of 73 years, Kaname “Bob” Kataoka (deceased Dec. 28, 2019).
She is survived by sister Kimie Ozaki, daughters Joy (Jim Patton) Kataoka and Amy Boyd, granddaughter Kimi Patton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of the lives of Kaname “Bob” Kataoka and Mitsue Y. Kataoka will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.

Henry K. Shintani
Henry K. Shintani passed away on Dec. 25, 2019, at the age of 64. He was born on December 11, 1955, in Pu‘uwai, Niihau. He was a field technician for Syngenta.
He was preceded in death by parents Kuramatsu Shintani Sr. and Violet Shintani, and brothers Joshua K. Shintani and Justin M. Shintani.
He is survived by wife Sandy Haunani Shintani of Kekaha, sons James (Jerry) Shintani Jr. of Hanapepe, Jeffery Shintani of Kekaha and John (Pui) Kahokuloa of Waimea, daughters Shereen (Evans) Louis of Waimea, Justine (Cjoe) Shintani of Kekaha, Shalei (Aaron) Shintani of Kekaha and Shaela Shintani of Kekaha, numerous grandchildren, brothers James Shintani Sr. of Kekaha and Kenneth (Judy) Shintani of Pu‘uwai, Niihau, sisters Violet Kahokuloa of Anahola, Grace Shintani of Pu‘uwai, Niihau, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His service is Friday, Jan. 10, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Vincente C. Ramelb
Vincente C. Ramelb passed away on Dec. 28, 2019, in Waimea.
He was born on April 9, 1943, in #38 Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and was retired.
He was preceded in death by father Apolonio Ramelb, mother Flora Cadavona Ramelb, former wife Apolonia Ramelb, and son Pedro Ramelb.
He is survived by Yoly Ingeniero, sons Jeffery Ingeniero of Philippines, Vincent (Angel) Ingeniero of Eleele, Bryan Ingeniero of North Carolina, Amante (Juliet) Ramelb of California and Erwin (Alison) Ramelb of Oregon, daughters Camela Ingeniero of Eleele, Anela Ingeniero of Eleele, Fely (Fabian) Banashian of Hanapepe and Janelyn (Ridel) Navor of Lihue, 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters Violeta Batangan of the Philippines, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan, 11, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and dinner to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Mitsuko Ho‘okano
Mitsuko Ho‘okano passed away at the age of 90 on Dec. 22, 2019. She was born on March 15, 1929. She was a licensed practical nurse.
She was preceded in death by parents Kataro and Kikusano Kimura, brothers Torao Katada, Hisashi Kimura, Shinge Kimura, Haruo Kimura, Tamotsu Kimura and Masaru Kimura, and sisters Agnes Yaeko Kimura and Esther Yachiyo Woods.
She is survived by sisters Yoshiko Young and Tomiko Abusa, sons Aaron (Stella) Ho‘okano of Honolulu, Isaac Liko (Debra) Ho‘okano of Kekaha, hanai son Keith Kimura of Honolulu, daughters Leah (Patrick) Pereira of Kekaha, Prellna (David) Meqee of California, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai, with visitation at noon and services at 1 p.m., with lunch to follow.
The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers and lei.
