Taylor ‘T-Money’ Pagador
Taylor “T-Money” Pagador, of Koloa, passed away on April 8, 2022, at the age of 30, at Wilcox Medical Center. Born in Lihu‘e on April 2, 1992, he was a cook at Merriman’s Kaua‘i, Po‘ipu.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Pete and Avelina Asuncion, Pete and Trini Pagador and brother Tyson Pagador.
He is survived by parents Wesley “Wes” and Miriam “Mimi” Pagador, brothers Brandon Agosto and Dustin “Chunky” (Qiana) Pagador, sister Kiana “Kiki” (Keli‘i “Bubu”) Pagador, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 6, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary chapel. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m.

Mary ‘Ama’ Fusako Watanabe
Mary “Ama” Fusako Watanabe, wife of the late Stanley Chikara Watanabe of Kekaha, mother to Ruth Watanabe, Norma Watanabe and Cheryl Ann Shinoda, mother-in-law to Robert Shinoda and grandma to Brandy Shinoda, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the age of 93 years young.
She was born in Tayabas, Quezon Province, Philippines, and then moved to Japan, where she met and married her beloved Stanley Watanabe. They later moved to Kekaha, where she made her home and raised a family.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 14, at the Waimea Foreign Church at 4 p.m. The family requests that face masks be worn.

Alperica Galiza Ramento
Alperica Galiza Ramento, 66, of Puhi, passed away at home on April 20, 2022. She was born in Tumauini, Isabela, Philippines on Jan. 17, 1956, and retired after working 25 years from the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort as a chambermaid.
She was always full of energy and love. She would spend her time crocheting and giving her finished work to her family and friends.
She enjoyed morning walks at Kaua‘i Lagoons and watching the sunrise at Nawiliwili Harbor with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren and reading the Bible.
She was preceded in death by father Pedro Galiza Sr., siblings Maria Galiza, Delia Galiza and Jose Galiza and niece Jeri Ann Galiza.
She is survived by husband Florencio Ramento, son Shaun Ramento, daughter Karen Ramento, mother Rosita Galiza, grandchildren Kolten Gipolan and Ares Gipolan, siblings Wilmer (Emely) Galiza, Jel “Lito” Galiza, Renato (Marijean) Galiza, Imelda (Gualberto) Honorato, Pedro (Jessica) Galiza Jr. and Divina (Gerald) Rapozo, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, May 7, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Leonard Esona Sr.
Leonard Esona Sr., 75, of Las Vegas, passed away at the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center on Jan. 16, 2021. He was born on April 15, 1945, in Waimea. He was employed and retired as a supervisor for Lihu‘e Plantation. After his retirement he moved to Las Vegas.
He proudly served his time in the Army in Vietnam. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming and gardening, and he was the family barbecue master.
He was preceded in death by parents Leoncio Esona and Isabello and Hilda (Bansole) Arcangel, brother Owen S. Esona, sister Cybil L. Esona, brother-in-law Ralph Remigio and son-in-law Lionel E.K. Gonsalves.
He is survived by wife Yolanda Esona of 46 years, daughters Cesili Gonsalves of Lihu‘e, Nicole (Kenneth) Carvalho of Kekaha, Shan (Charlan Mano‘i) Esona of Las Vegas and Kabbie (Aaron) Koshan of Las Vegas, son Leonard Esona Jr. of Las Vegas, hanai son Shea (Lauren) Montgomery, children Shaiann Montgomery, Malakai Montgomery, Morgan Bolton and Makenna Montgomery of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Bryson (Kaira Kupihea) Gonsalves, Alexis Youn-Esona, Trinity Koshan, Kailah Esona, Brianni Higashi, Kiana Carvalho, Sanoe Carvalho, Reef Carvalho, Justin Bonachita-Esona, Cyann Akaji, Kanan Akaji, Diesel Mano‘i, Keli‘i Esona, Kaylee Esona, Kai Esona and Kaleb Esona, great-grandchildren Ayva Marie and Ayden Brock Gonsalves, his loyal and loving furry companion Elu, brothers Steven (Edna) Esona of Wahiawa, O‘ahu, Alvin (Agatha) Esona of Waipahu, O‘ahu, mother-in-law Consuelo Remigio of Kapa‘a, sisters-in-law Gloria (Dennis) Bonilla of ‘Oma‘o and Lorna Navarro of Lihu‘e, brother-in-law Gary (Jennifer) Remigio of Lihu‘e, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
His celebration of life is at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e Saturday, May 14, with visitation starting at 9 a.m., services start 9:30 a.m., brunch at 10 a.m., and burial to follow at 1 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests aloha or casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Delroy Kalani Shigematsu
Delroy Kalani Shigematsu, 62, of Kapa‘a, passed away on April 21, 2022. He was born on Sept. 28, 1959, and was a professional painter known throughout the community, the lead painter for H.D. Construction and installer for seamless gutters for Karl Kimura.
He was preceded in death by grandma Martha Alapa‘i, son Darren James Shigematsu and brother Jim Ormord Jr.
He is survived by wife Cindy Marie Shigematsu, children Cyndel Marie (Kahua Kanakole) Shigematsu, Sean Michael Mokulea (Kylee Pedro) Shigematsu and Sierra Marie (Keidre Pulley) Shigematsu, fur baby Olive Marie Shigematsu, father Jim Ormord, brother Pauly (Lisa) Kuamura, sisters Lynn (Bob) Chase, Lulu Ormord and Lani Ormord, grandchildren Kaikoa and Poliahu Kanakole, Karson Cobb and Gianna, Alexander, Katalina and Keiana Pulley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Friday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. A celebration of life is Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Lydgate Park near the soccer field heading toward Kaha Lani condominium.

Paul Tasuku Matsunaga
On April 16, 2020, Paul Tasuku Matsunaga passed away at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by wife Arline, children Dorene (Elpidio) and Scott (Pakalana), and grandchildren Kellianne (Daniel), Tyler and Sarah.
He was a loving father, a supportive brother and uncle, and a civil servant to his community, working 31 years with the state Department of Human Services Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
A leader from an early age, he was president of the Kaua‘i High Class of 1952, and went on to leadership roles at the Lihu‘e YMCA, Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity and Koke‘e Leaseholders Association. He was a proud Baylor University alumnus, and regularly traveled to the mainland to watch Baylor football games. And like a lot of us, he loved going to Vegas — video poker was his specialty. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and rich public–speaking voice.
During his last few months, he was unable to see many of his beloved family and friends due to the pandemic. So his family is happy to announce that his celebration of life service will be held to honor his memory on Saturday, May 14, at Garden Island Mortuary.
We look forward to talking story and sharing fond memories of our beloved Paul. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m, with services following at 10:30 a.m. The family requests aloha attire.

Barbara Haruki
Barbara Haruki passed away on March 26, 2022, at the age of 95, in Lihu‘e. She was born on April 30, 1926. She was a court clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hiroshi Roscoe Haruki and sisters Jeanette Yoshinobu and Katherine Odo.
She is survived by sons Warren (Gail) Haruki of Honolulu and Alan (Denise) Haruki of Mililani, O‘ahu, daughter Ann (Edwin) Haruki-Pinedo of Seattle, grandchildren Jason Haruki, Justin Haruki, Jaime Pinedo, Andrea Strid, Tina Pinedo, Cory Haruki and Ashley Bolosan, great-grandchildren Beckett Strid, Audrey Strid, Lea Haruki and Riley Bolosan, brother Howard (Christine) Yoshinobu of Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu, sisters Betty Lou Yoshinobu of Lihu‘e, Patricia (Eric) Shinseki of Falls Church, Virginia, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on O‘ahu.
Monetary donations can be made in her name to Kapa‘a United Church of Christ, which was her haven for friendship and to reaffirm her faith. Any monetary donations received by the family will also be donated to her church.
