Elsie Taeko Takata

The celebration of life gathering for Elsie Taeko Takata is Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Niumalu Canoe Club, Kalapaki Beach (behind the ABC Store).

The informal service starts at noon, and includes an open mic for anyone who would like to share a memory or anything. Lunch and homegrown entertainment will follow. All are welcome to share talents.

It was her wish to have that one more reunion gathering.

The family requests no koden (monetary gifts) or gifts.

The family apologizes for the last-minute, spur-of-the-moment announcement.

Allen Kunio Ihara

Allen Kunio Ihara, 87, of Lihu‘e, passed away at his nieces’ home on Sept. 28, 2022. He was born on May 20, 1935, on Kaua‘i. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the County of Kaua‘i as a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by parents Muneo and Hatsuko Ihara, siblings Kimie Sommerfeld, Ayako Neifert, Akie Moribe, Tomoe Anderson and Richard Ihara.

He is survived by brother Wayne (Mitzi) Ihara, sister Patricia (Allen) Ticala, caregivers Randal, Debbie, Marisa, Dreana and Randon Valenciano, nephews Peter Neifert, David Neifert and Myles Moribe, nieces Trudy Peltier, Susan Bissonnette, Polly Sommerfeld-Daigle, Debbie Valenciano, Shari Keli‘ia‘a and Jennifer Ihara-Takase, sister-in-law Patsy Ihara, and numerous cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Private services will be held by the family.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

EnCarnacion ‘Carnation’ L. Carvalho

EnCarnacion “Carnation” L. Carvalho passed away at her home in Lihu‘e on Oct. 16, 2022, at the age of 87. She was born on April 27, 1935, in Koloa, and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by parents John and Micaela Torres, brothers Stanley and Paul Torres and sister Cidela Imaoka.

She is survived by husband Adam Wallace Carvalho, daughters Charlotte (John McFarland) Camara, Joyce (Jerry) Baptista and Colleen (David Sr.) Braun, grandchildren Cheryl (Cipriano Ragocos III) Stoddard, Rhonda (Walter Dotimas) Camara, Jason (Layleigh Carveiro) Camara, Maile (Anthony) Lakatsas, Leilani (Nick) Quiroz, Lehua (Manny) Mossa, David (Summer Malina) Braun Jr., Crystal Braun and Kaylee Braun, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Nov. 10, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary chapel in Koloa. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

The family requests flowers be omitted and that masks be worn.

Catalina ‘Lina’ Corpuz

Catalina “Lina” Corpuz, 76, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Oct. 20, 2022, in Lihu‘e. She was born on Nov. 25, 1945, in Pangasinan, Philippines. She worked on Kaua‘i as a housekeeper at Kaua‘i Shores Hotel.

She was preceded in passing by husband Carlos Corpuz, parents Leon and Albina Alcantara, and siblings Louisa (Justo) Corpuz, Presca Alcantara and Josie Dela Cruz.

She is survived by children Beatrice Corpuz, Imelda Corpuz and Carlos Corpuz, grandchildren Edward Rabot, Jason Rabot, Gabrielle Rosa, Kimberly Corpuz, Mark Simon Corpuz, Karlo Corpuz, Camille Corpuz and Keith Carlo Corpuz, and great-grandchildren Isaiah Rabot, Sofia Grace Rabot and Xavien Balalua.

Private services were held by the family.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Marina Caberto Igne

Marina Caberto Igne, of Kaumakani, passed away on Oct. 19, 2022, in Waimea, at the age of 90. She was born on Feb. 17, 1932, in Hanama‘ulu. She was a retired cashier with Waimea Big Save.

She was preceded in death by husband Emilio Igne, parents Gregorio and Eulogia Caberto, sister Apolonia Basquez, brother Billy Caberto, and grandson Taylor Ramos.

She is survived by sons James (Christine) Igne of Cashmere, Washington, Michael (Cindy Marie) Igne of Kaumakani and Sean (Chlorie) Igne of ‘Ele‘ele, daughter Joni Ann (Allan) Ramos of Lihu‘e, sisters Janet Haffner of Kekaha and Georgia Fernandez of Kekaha, grandchildren Isaiah Igne, Jeremy Igne, Sandon (Shaylece) Igne, Kelsie (Tiana) Igne-Samio, Ashtin Igne, Traci (Abe) Ramos, Stetson (Seanne) Igne, Tevin Igne, Hayden (Will) Igne, Braxton Igne, Teagan Igne, Cyrus (Avi) Medeiros and Chaunte (Tony) Silva, great-grandchildren Elijah Igne, Gunner and Sanira Igne, Atlis and Adakis Igne-Samio, Kyren, Kylea and Kyla Kahalekomo, Anuhea and Mohala Igne, Tavis-James Igne, Liam Simao, Mia, Mimi and Kyrus Medeiros, Taybree, Tony Boy and Tyrus Silva, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life services are Saturday, Nov. 5, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. and prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

The family requests casual attire and lei can be brought in her memory to add to the memory branches.
