Gertrude Lorraine Merle

Gertrude Lorraine Merle passed away on April 12, 2022, at the age of 99. She was born on April 9, 1923, in New York City.

She was preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Fannie Newman.

She is survived by husband Sherman Merle, daughters Fern (Michael) Merle-Jones of Kilauea, Carol (James) Merle-Fishman of Cortlandt Manor, New York, four grandchildren, great-grandchildren Lea Merle, Michaela Marion and Levi Marion, brother Larry Newman and sister Freida Schneider.

A private service was held.

Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Helen Teraoka

Helen Teraoka passed away on April 2, 2022, at the age of 90. Born in Holualoa-Kona, Hawai‘i Island, she was a retired state of Hawai‘i tax collector.

She was preceded in death by husband Albert Teraoka.

She is survived by children Dayn (Lisa) Teraoka, Joni (Wilfred) Sibayan, Vicki (Joel) Choo and Jason (Tracy) Gunn, brothers Eugene (JoAnne) Yamada and Douglas (Edna) Yamada, sisters Fances (Harold) Watase, Janet Maeda and Hazel (Bob) Hirayama, and four grandchildren.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jennie Yukimura

Jennie Yukimura, 97, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on March 6, 2022. She was born in Honolulu on May 24, 1924, and retired from the state of Hawai‘i as a social worker with the state Department of Health Mental Health children’s team on Kaua‘i.

She was preceded in death by husband Jiro Yukimura.

She is survived by children JoAnn (John Wehrheim) Yukimura, John (Hinda Lefkowitz) Yukimura, Miles Yukimura, Kathy (Mark) Fertello and David Yukimura, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Saturday, May 21, at Lihu‘e Christian Church, 2943 Kress St., with visitation from 10 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
