Bernard ‘Pinake’ Balmores

Bernard “Pinake” Balmores passed away on Dec. 11, 2022, in Lihu‘e, at the age 78. He was born on Oct. 9, 1944, in the Philippines. He was a driver for Polynesian Adventure Tours and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by parents Severino Balmores and Lourdes Aquino.

He is survived by wife Gay Balmores, children Kelly (Dara) Balmores, Kim Balmores, Brandy Nicolas, Gabrielle (Ryan Patterson) Balmores and Gregory Balmores, siblings Rodrigo “Baye” Balmores, Teresita “Tessie” Kinnaman, Craig (Linda) Balmores, Irma (Clinton) Hinchcliff, Abraham Balmores, Arthur Balmores, Anita (Stuart) Yoneji, Yolanda (Mitchell) Demas, Lydia (Aaron) Konno, Adelia (Richard) Fuller, Mario Balmores, Melinda Yomen, Gina (Ronnie) Gudoy and Edwin Balmores, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at ‘Oma‘o Ranch Lands (Daryl Kaneshiro’s farm), 4191 Koloa Rd., Koloa, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Charles ‘Charlie’ Takeo Moriguchi

Charles “Charlie” Takeo Moriguchi, 92, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 7, 2022. He was born on July 30, 1930, in Honolulu. He was the owner for Charlie’s Service & Repair and a Marine veteran.

He was preceded in death by parents Harry and Fusako (Watanabe) Moriguchi, brothers Harris Moriguchi and Ronald Moriguchi, and brother-in-law Barney Mateo.

He is survived by wife Betty Satsuki (Murakami) Moriguchi, sons Duane (Denise) Moriguchi of ‘Ele‘ele, Guy (Shirley) Moriguchi of Lihu‘e and Eric (Janell) Moriguchi of Kekaha, grandchildren Ashlie Moriguchi, Kyra (Evan Kuribayashi), Mallory (Kane) Zalopany, Justin (Mariah Navor) Moriguchi, Hali‘a Moriguchi, Bryce Yoshida and Grant Yoshida, great-grandchildren Emma and Kolt Kuribayashi, Alaka‘i, Kanıela and Kala‘i Zalopany and Maddux Moriguchi, brother Bert (Lynn) Moriguchi of Kailua, O‘ahu, sister Jane (Moriguchi) Mateo of ‘Ele‘ele, and sisters-in-law Laraine Moriguchi of Lihu‘e and Evelyn Moriguchi of San Francisco.

A service is Friday, Dec. 23, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. with services to follow. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. A private burial will be at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
