Masanobu Ishino

Masanobu Ishino passed away on Feb. 15, 2022, at the age of 97, in Lawa‘i.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1924 in San Diego. He was a yardman.

He was preceded in death by wife Ayako Ishino.

He is survived by son Bruce Ishino of Kaua‘i, one grandchild, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private service was held.

Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Helene Kimiko Yamagata

Helene Kimiko Yamagata of Kapa‘a passed away on Jan. 23, 2022, at the age of 84, in Lihu‘e. She was born on Oct. 28, 1937, in Waimea. She was a retired public elementary-school teacher.

She was preceded in death by husband Philip Mitsuru Yamagata, parents Kiitchi and Michie Yamashiro, sister Dorothy (Hannah) Yamagata and in-laws Mark Fewel, Ronald Yamagata and Hideo and Edith Oride.

She is survived by son Randy K. Yamagata of Kapa‘a, daughter Jeri L. Yamagata of Kapa‘a, sisters Ann (Dr. Michael) Suzuki of Maui and Gail Fewel of California, sisters-in-law Nancy Unemori (Fat — deceased) of Moloka‘i, Janet (Isamu) Yoshishige of Kaua‘i, Leatrice Tanaka of Kaua‘i and Janet Yamagata of O‘ahu, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, March 26, at Garden Island Mortuary, with a walk-thru visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Audrey Ai Kawado

Audrey Ai Kawado, 76, passed away in Buffalo, New York, on Jan. 29, 2022. She was born in Lihu‘e on Mar. 23, 1945, and retired from the state of Hawai‘i as a social worker.

She is survived by sons Nathan Kawado (Kenneth Shigematsu) of San Bruno, California, Noel Kawado of Mascot, Tennessee and Aaron (Tricia) Kawado of Buffalo, New York, three grandchildren, sister Daphne McClure of Anahola, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Details of a service on Kaua‘i will be announced at a later date.

Lorenzo ‘Larry’ Simbre

Lorenzo “Larry” Simbre passed away on Feb. 10, 2022, at the age of 83, in Waimea. He was born on Oct. 2, 1938 in Waialua, O‘ahu. He was a merchant seamanship cook.

He was preceded in death by parents Urbano Sudario Simbre and Maria Caronilla Simbre, brothers William Domingo, Pancing Lopez, Domingo Lopez, Eugene Ventura and James Simbre, and sisters Leonita Jeffiries and Beatrice Simbre.

He is survived by sons Lorenzo Simbre Jr. of O‘ahu, Bernard L. Simbre of O‘ahu and Luke (Kailani) Schmitt of Seattle, hanai son Peyton Siliado of Kaua‘i, daughters Vanessa F. Simbre of O‘ahu, Holly C. (Nelson) Fontanilla of O‘ahu, Blossom N. (William) Arthur of Kaua‘i and Lorena M. (Darrell) Cadelinia of O‘ahu, 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brothers Stephen Simbre of Hawai‘i, Richard (Linda) Simbre of O‘ahu, Urbano (Robin) Simbre Jr. of O‘ahu, Edward Ventura of California and Robert (Carol) Ventura of O‘ahu, sisters Jane Ringor of O‘ahu, Elizabeth Jardin of Texas and Shirley R. (Wayne) Simbre-Medeiros of Kaua‘i, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private service will be held.
