Doris M. Sugahara
Doris M. Sugahara, 90, of Kaua‘i, passed away on Nov. 26, 2022. She was born on March 12, 1932, on Kaua‘i. She was a medical records clerk with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by husband Miyogo Sugahara, son Leslie Sugahara, parents Sosei Furugen and Kameko Furugen, brothers Minoru Furugen, Tadashi Furugen, Kiyoshi Furugen and Wallace Furugen, sister Alice Furugen, great- grandson Kaya Sugahara and great-granddaughter Kodie Sugahara.
She is survived by sons Miles (Catherine Pfendler) Sugahara of Kaua‘i, Joel (Faith) Sugahara of Arizona and Brent Sugahara of Kaua‘i, sisters Masako Oda of O‘ahu and Elaine (Gary) Hiranaka of Kaua‘i, 10 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Jan. 21, at Kapa‘a United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with service at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Navor Sr.
Ricardo E. Navor Sr., 83, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 10, 2022, in Lihu‘e. He was born on March 14, 1939, in the Philippines. He was a sugar crane operator at Lihu‘e Plantation.
He was preceded in death by parents Agapito Navor and Celerina Navor, grandson BJ Navor Gaitos, brother Juanito (Anacleta) Navor, sisters Adelina (Mariano) Negrillo, Paulina (Cresencio) Bumatay and Darlene Navor and stepmom Rachel Navor.
He is survived by wife Adelina P. Navor, daughters Marlene (Jonathan) Reyes, Virgie (John Nakamura) Navor, Norma Mission and Maile (Lester) Tugade, hanai daughter Zhylelah Cummings-Navor, sons Ricardo (Kym Estacio) Navor Jr. and Ridel (Jayne Ramelb) Navor, brother Agapito (Melissa) Navor, sisters Cecilia Navor and Ululani (Dan) Urwiller, grandchildren Fredrick-Hollywood (Nadia) Navor-Aquias, Tyner (Sierra Kelekoma) Navor, Dustin (Leiala Cummings) Navor, Brandon (Shaleia Aplidao) Navor, Mariah (Justin Moriguchi) Navor, Nalani (Marion Carbonel) Mission, Kelsie (Kalen Laranio) Navor, Krystal-Carrie “KC” (Kylie Souza) Gaitos, Austin (Diamond) Ramos, Cameron Navor, Alaysia Navor, Lauryn Tugade, Logan Tugade, Lexi Tugade, Kasarah Navor, Nalu Nobriga, Clifton (Amber Keeler) Mission, Anu Navor, Naya Navor, Kiani Taniguchi and Chastin Mission, 33 great-grandchildren, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing is Thursday, Jan. 5, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i from 5 to 8 p.m.
A service is Friday, Jan. 6, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i from 8 to 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park cemetery.
Richard Camara
Richard Camara, 95, originally from Port Allen, passed away on Dec. 6, 2022. He was born on June 2, 1927, in ‘Ele‘ele, and resided for many years in Kalaheo. He was a HVAC technician and a veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by wife Elizabeth Camara, son Richard M. Camara Jr. and parents John and Mary Camara.
He is survived by daughters Deborah Camara, Sandra Camara, Cindy O’Connor and Mary (Christopher) Hare, son Jim (Anita) Camara, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, Illinois.
Mickey Huntsinger

On Nov. 2, 2022 our much beloved mother, Mickey Huntsinger, passed away peacefully into God’s graces. A steel magnolia throughout life, she was 96 years old.
She was preceded in death by husband Donald Huntsinger.
She is survived by many loving individuals, including daughters Patricia Yost, Lisa (Teresa) Huntsinger and Donna (John) Pimental, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

William R. Freitas
William R. Freitas, 94, of Kilauea, passed away at home on Dec. 26, 2022. He was born in Kilauea on Dec. 30, 1927, and served three years in the Army military police, after which he worked as a mechanic at Kilauea Plantation and then later on retired from Princeville Corporation.
He was preceded in passing by parents Manuel and Mary Freitas, brothers Jacinth, Joseph, Walter, Manuel Jr. and Patrick Freitas, and sisters Josephine Guilermo, Caroline Feiteia, Hilda Camara, Bernice Freitas, Annabelle Hirschi and Kathleen Poe.
He is survived by sister Loretta F. Boro, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Sylvester Church in Kilauea. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and burial to follow immediately after at Kilauea Japanese Cemetery.

Doreen Leilani Henriques
Doreen Leilani Henriques, 74, passed away on Dec. 19, 2022, in Lihu‘e. She was born on O‘ahu on Nov. 16, 1948, and worked as a waitress at the Green Garden.
She was preceded in passing by husband Steven C. Henriques, father Mark Napolis and sister Diane Rita.
She is survived by mother Henrietta Napolis, children Sharon Dietz, Steven Henriques and Emi Nollar, siblings Deborah Johnston, Donna Friend, David Napolis, Dain Napolis and Dana Palmeria, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private services will be held by the family.

John Kelepine Lopes Jr.
John Kelepine Lopes Jr. passed away on Dec. 15, 2022, at Garden Isle Healthcare at the age of 84. He was born on Feb. 3, 1938, in Honolulu. He was a veteran with the U. S. Air Force and a master plumber.
He was preceded in death by wife Patricia Ann Lopes, father John Kelepine Lopes Sr., mother Violet Kapaona Makia, sister Margaret Claudette Lady Kelepine Kaleohano, brothers Clement “Tui” Lopes, Herman Lopes, Richard Lopes and Peter Estoy.
He is survived by sons Calvin Arroyo of Honolulu, Teddy Arroyo of Lihu‘e, Ioane Lopes of Lawa‘i and Aukai Lopes of Anahola, daughters Lavina Taovao of Anahola, Kolina Lopes-Carter of Wai‘anae and Aulani Lopes-Villalobes of Anahola, 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service is Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation is from 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. The family requests aloha attire.

Darrel (Mark) Heyne
Darrel (Mark) Heyne, 68, of Lawa‘i, and formally of Wainiha, peacefully went home to his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on May 31, 2022, due to 5 years of diabetes complications. Born in Santa Monica, California on May 1, 1954 to Darrel George and Gwen Heyne, Marky-Mark, as he often called himself, was born the same day his grandfather Roland Heyne was born.
He attended Ala Wai Elementary, Kawananakoa Internediate on O‘ahu, then finished his high school education at Kapa‘a High School.
Though he did not attend culinary school, he had a natural gift when it came to cooking, whether for one person or hundreds of people. He was known for preparing local Hawaiian food, with enough leftovers so that his aloha could be extended to their dinner table the next day. It brought him so much joy to see people filled with food he prepared with so much love.
At a very early age, he and his brother Robert had their own paper route delivering newspaper in Nu‘uanu, O‘ahu. He also worked many years for the Ching family, cooking at the Village Snack Shop &Bakery in Hanalei, while his wife Claire cooked and baked along side of him. He also worked as a laborer for Spencer’s Masonry, Inc., in Kilauea.
Fishing and gathering from the land to provide for his family was one of his passions, along with gardening and landscaping. He loved being a steward of the land, caring for native plants and keeping the land looking its best.
He is survived by sister Ginger Heyne McDowell of Lihu‘e, stepdad Don McDowell of Long Beach, Washington, Matthew Heyne of Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, Calana, and his cousin, caregiver, and dearest friend of all times, Loui Cabebe and his wife Fumi of Hanapepe.
He was preceded in death by parents Darrel and Gwen Heyne, sister Melanie Kolika Heyne of a Princeville, and brother Robert Heyne of Anchorage, Alaska.
Please join us this Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Princeville park pavilion from 1:30 to 4 p.m. for his celebration of life. A private scattering of his ashes will be held at a later date with his immediate family.
