Melvin Toshihiko Yamamoto
Melvin Toshihiko Yamamoto, 77, of Kalaheo, passed away at Wilcox Medical Clinic on July 13, 2019. He was born in Koloa, on Dec. 17, 1941, and retired from Hale Kauai as a mechanic.
Preceded in death by his parents Hiroshi and Kimiko Yamamoto; brothers, Kenneth, Dexter and Wayne Yamamoto.
Melvin is survived by his wife Elaine Yamamoto; 4 children, Iris (Jason) Craig, Maxine (Patrick) Garma, Royden (Kara) Yamamoto, Scott (Shaylen Demelo-Olivera) Yamamoto; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Milton Yamamoto; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private graveside services were held at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Assisted the family with arrangements.
Dan Oshiro
Dan Oshiro, 53, of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Kapaa, passed away on July 19, 2019.
He is preceded in death by his dad Katsumi Oshiro and mom Toshie Oshiro.
He is survived by his wife Michelle Oshiro; daughter Paige Oshiro; brothers, Roy (Amelia) Oshiro of Hunstville, AL, Guy (Sandra) Oshiro of San Diego, CA.
The family will receive friends July 25, 2019, at Berryhill Funeral Home in Hunstville, Alabama.
A memorial services will be held on Kauai at a later date.
Florence Nakamasu Wakuta
Florence Nakamasu Wakuta passed away at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving ohana on July 14, 2019.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Hideo Wakuta; brother, Ernest Nakamasu.
She is survived by her children, Derek (Debra) Wakuta of Kapaa, Dawn (Xavier) Ikea of Aiea, Daryl (Alison) Wakuta of Torrance, California, Duane (Puanani) Wakuta of Kapaa; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Stella Miyoshi of Kapaa, Nancy Talbo of Lihue, Francis Ishikawa of Honolulu, Roy Nakamasu of Honolulu, Dennis Nakamasu of Honolulu, Donna Kozai of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Wakuta residence at 5980A Kaapuni Road. Please see parking attendants for assistance. Services will begin at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire and flowers omitted.
Alexis Iwalani Camacho
Alexis Iwalani Camacho, better known be all of us as Lani, was born in Lihue at Wilcox Hospital on Dec. 6, 1958, Hilda Apuakahei Maka Zaima and the late James Kaname Zaima Sr. She always had a love for the ministry and enjoyed helping people learn what the Bible teaches. Lani was baptized at Lydgate Beach Park, in Morgan’s Pond as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, on June 3, 1973, at the age of 14. She spent many of her summers in the vacation pioneer work; temporary pioneer work and auxiliary pioneer work as we know it today. Lani married Arturo Camacho on Nov. 2, 1991. Thereafter, she auxiliary pioneered for 2 years until she joined Artie as a regular pioneer on Jan.1, 1994. She was in the pioneer work until her death on July 13, 2019.
She is pre- deceased by her mother Hilda Apakahei Maka Zaima, father James Kaname Zaima Sr., and brother James Kaname Zaima Jr. She is survived by her husband, Artie Camacho, brother Clesson Akira Zaima of Adak, Alaska, sister LaVerne Brede of Anahola, on step-son, Dathan Camacho of Arkansas, and step-mother Gwen Fujimoto Zaima of Lihue, step-sisters Lisa, Cora and June Fujimoto and step-brother Eric Fujimoto, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces & grand nephews, cousins and friends.
Services to be held on July 27, 2019, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. 9 to 11 a.m. visitation. Celebration of life beginning at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow. Flowers to be omitted.
