Sylvia Morris Martin

Sylvia Morris Martin passed away on June 18, 2021, at the age of 82, at her residence in Lawa‘i. She was born on Aug. 18, 1938, in Port Allen. She worked for the Kaua‘i Pineapple Company, Kaua‘i Motors and was a substitute teacher for many schools around the island.

Syliva was preceded in death by her ex-husband Antone M. Martin Jr., parents Frank Santiago Morris and Beatrice Sedeno Souza, brothers Frank Gilbert Morris, Leonard Morris and Herbert Morris.

Syliva is survived by her sons Antone (Dawn) Martin III, Dean (Dessamae) Martin, David J. Martin all of Lawa‘i, daughter Cynthia Choch (Michael) Canne of Reno, Nevada, 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, sisters Susie (William) Lopes of Kapa‘a, Laverne Bessert of Wailua, brother Melvin (Cheryl) Morris of Lawa‘i, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Violet ‘Vi’ Tong Git Mew Strom

Violet “Vi” Tong Git Mew Strom passed away on June 16, 2021, at the age of 91. She was born in Honolulu on Dec. 21, 1928. She was a KEO outreach worker, Director of the YWCA, Director of Hawai‘i Planned Parenthood, Camp Director at Summer Camps at Sloggett & helped in the development of Teen Programs for the YWCA.

A private family service will held at a later date.

Mark James Vasquez

Mark James Vasquez passed away on June 20, 2021, at the age of 54, in Lawa‘i. He was born on Oct. 20, 1966, in Santa Clara, California. He was a construction worker.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Jim Vasquez and brother Zachary Vasquez.

Mark is survived by his wife Liana Newall, daughters Kourtney Gregg (Christian Perez) of Kekaha, Kaylah Rosario (Jay) of Waimea, grandchildren Kayden, Kobejay and Kami Rosario, Kenzie, Kaveah and Cruz Perez, mother Carmen Vasquez, brothers Leonard Vasquez (Melissa) of Hollister, California, Andrew Vasquez of Pleasanton, California, Ciso Vasquez of Dublin, California, Christopher Vasquez of Santa Rosa, California, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alfred Pacheco, Jr.

Alfred Pacheco, Jr. passed away on June 15, 2021, at the age of 88. He was born on March 20, 1933 on Kaua‘i.

Alfred was preceded in death by parents Alfred Pacheco Sr. and Angeline Motta Pacheco and brother Wayne Pacheco, Sr.

Alfred is survived by sisters Sally Kimura, Marilyn Louis, brother Gary (Haunani) Pacheco, sister-in-law Alice Pacheco, numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be St. Sylvester Church on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Visitation will be at 9 to 9:45 a.m. with celebration of life to follow. The family suggest Aloha attire and welcomes flowers. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, facemasks and social distancing are required.
