Robert Anthony Young
Robert Anthony Young, 61, passed away on July 8, 2022, in Bastrop, Texas.
He was born on July 25, 1960, in Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by mother Betty Gomes, father Richard Young, papa Joe Gomes, Lyvonne (Eddie) Cremer and Aaron “Kalani” Pezario-Young.
He is survived by wife Pamela Young, children Brandon Fukuda of O‘ahu, Ashley (Jonathan) Fernandez, Tiera Gonsalves and Rheanna Young, stepchildren Dustin (Echo) Zinsmeyer of Texas and Van Zinsmeyer of Texas, siblings Richard (Fran) Young, John (Deanna) Young, Florence (Kevin Ono) Young-Cawaring and Joey Figaroa-Young, stepsiblings Kenton (Donna) Gomes, Glenn (Doreen) Gomes, Norman (Nalei) Gomes, Gary (Jeanette) Cabagua Jr. and Victoria Cambe, nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties, and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 8, at Po‘ipu Beach Park, starting at noon. Potluck, please bring a dish to share.
Gordon James Mattos
Gordon James Mattos, 77, of Kekaha, passed away on Sept. 18, 2022, at home surrounded by his wife and eight children. He was born on Feb. 18, 1945, in Hilo and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy before starting his career with the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, where he retired with over 51 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by parents John and Mary (Amaral) Mattos and brothers Robert and John “Jippy” Mattos.
He is survived by his wife Adele (Pereira) Mattos, children Marlene (Greg) Cieless, John “Scooby” (Joanna) Mattos, Loretta (Joshua) Witmer, Adeline (Julian) Gilliam, Christine (Robbie Jr.) Silva, Timothy Mattos, Jessica Mattos and Mary (Trisdon) Yadao, 20 grandchildren, brothers Roy (Jill) Mattos and Thomas (Jackie) Mattos, sisters Rosemary Nunogawa, Bernadette Tomas and Sharon (John) Macayan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Oct. 8, at St. Theresa Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass to begin promptly at 9 a.m. A private burial service will follow. The family respectfully requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
Rodney Cachero passed away on Sept. 26, 2022, in ‘Ele‘ele at the age of 61. He was born on Aug. 19, 1961, in Waimea. He was a general maintenance laborer.
He was preceded in death by father Ricarte Cachero, brother Orlando Cachero, grandparents Hilaria and Benny Caberto and Maxima and Damaso Cachero.
He is survived by girlfriend Lisa Heath of Waimea, sons Nicholas (Kimberly) Cachero of Kalaheo, Roddy (Kirri Anderson) Cachero of Kekaha and Jakob Cachero of Kaua‘i, stepson Chris Cantu of Honolulu, daughter Whitney (Lawrence) Yadao of ‘Ele‘ele, stepdaughters Brittany Florez of Waimea and Angela Heath of Waimea, mother Pauline Cachero, stepmom Expedita Cachero, sisters Judy (Jeffery) Miller of Ewa Beach and Daisy Oyama of Honolulu, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Sunday, Oct. 9, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., with celebration of life services to follow at 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Aldrico C. Butac
Aldrico C. Butac passed away on Sept. 14, 2022, in Waimea at the age of 85. He was born on Jan. 1, 1937, in the Philippines. He was a cornfield laborer.
He was survived by wife Cerelina Butac of Kaumakani, son Edward Butac, daughter-in-law Teresita Butac, grandchildren Bryan Sagucio, James Sagucio, Jeldric Alupay, Jhonsen Alupay and Jerico Alupay, sisters Candelaria Sinang, Feliza Ramones, Juliana Domingcil and Lucresia Madela, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 1, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation with family is from 9 to 11 a.m. with services to follow. Burial will follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
