Stephen Joel Thomas

Stephen Joel Thomas passed away on May 17, 2021, at the age of 76, at home in Kapa’a. He was born on Dec. 13, 1944, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a sugar plantation superintendent.

He was preceded in death by parents Alexander and Frances Thomas and daughter Nicole Thomas.

He is survived by wife Sheilah Sanae Thomas, son Brandon (Leo) Thomas of Wailua, daughter Dawn (Kenneth) Cummings of Wailua, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers Dennis Thomas of Wailua and Jeff (Norma) Thomas of Wailua, sister Valerie Thomas of Wailua, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be determined at a later date.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mildred ‘Millie’ Nunes Orsatelli

Mildred “Millie” Nunes Orsatelli passed away on Dec. 27, 2020, at the age of 91. She was born in Pakala on Dec. 25, 1929. She was employed by Medeiros Farms in Kalaheo.

She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Octavia Nunes, husband Stanley Orsatelli Sr., brothers Robert and Timothy Nunes, daughter Valerie Camara, son Jeffery Orsatelli, grandson Toby Orsatelli and sister Marjorie Farias.

She is survived by daughter Deborah (Clifford) Pimental, sons Robert (Cheryle) Orsatelli, Stanley Orsatelli and David Orsatelli, son-in-law Wayne Camara, daughter-in-law Bridgette Orsatelli, sisters Shirley Martin and Loretta Grace, sister- in-law Bernie Nunes, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life is Saturday, June 19, at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery, from 11 a.m. to noon.

A walk-thru service is planned. Masks must be worn.

Natalie A. Carlos

Natalie A. Carlos, 63, of Lihu‘e, passed away on June 9, 2021. She was born on Kaua‘i on Oct. 11, 1957, and worked as a dietitian for many years.

She was preceded in death by brothers Clyde, Maximo Jr. and Vincent Efhan.

She is survived by children Kendall (Lei) Efhan, Krystal (Wukong Masaki) Moon-Fumimoto and Kyle (Eileen) Carlos, sisters Karen (Paul) Schoener and Wanda (Peter) Rodenborn, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Keala Shandi Kwai Lan Ruiz

Keala Shandi Kwai Lan Ruiz, 39, of Hanapepe, was born at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 24, 1981. She passed away at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital on June 1, 2021.

She is survived by her fiancé Christian “Chris” Parado of Hanapepe, sons Chanson Mano‘i-Ruiz, Chaedyn Parado and Cairyn Parado, all of Hanapepe, parents John D. Ruiz and Lisa (Palama) Ruiz, brothers Danny (Ashlie Tao) Ruiz of Nevada and Ikaika Ruiz of Nevada, grandparents Damascio Ruiz Jr. and Thelma (Fu) Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o, David (Moana) Palama of Kahili, Beverly (Michael Edwards) Nunes-Palama of Kapa‘a, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A walk-thru visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Garden Island Mortuary, with a celebration of life to follow. The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.
