Kuuipo Reiko Shimizu

With heavy hearts, we inform the loss of Kuuipo Reiko Shimizu, our cherished mother, daughter, and loving friend to all whose lives she touched.

After a valiant fight with diabetes, she passed peacefully on Sept. 25, 2022, at Wilcox Medical Center and was only 43 years old. She was born on March 19, 1979, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Kuuipo was preceded in death by her father Allen Shimizu.

She is survived by boyfriend Garrett Higa, daughter Jezrael, mother Beatrice, brothers Matthew and Corey of Hanapepe, as well as her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

God’s adult life calling for Kuuipo was to be a foster parent. Selfless, generous, and thoughtful as she already was, she didn’t hesitate and chose to make a difference in the lives of many kids.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at West Kaua‘i Hongwanji Mission, Hanapepe Temple. Visitation starts at 3 p.m. with fellowship to follow. ***MASK is required in temple***

Eileen Meu Lin Chai Miyasato

Eileen Meu Lin Chai Miyasato, 77, of Lihu‘e, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 25, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 24, 1945, in Kailua, O‘ahu. She was a dressmaker for over 50 years and a sewing instructor for over 30 years. She ran a sewing school called Aunty Eileen’s Sewing School in Lihu‘e. Eileen was an active member of Kaua‘i Bible Church in Oma‘o.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Beatrice Chai.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years Barry Miyasato of Lihu‘e, sons David (Estelle) Miyasato, Daniel (Kristi) Miyasato, Darryl (Reiko) Miyasato, six grandchildren, sisters Elizabeth Au, Eleanor Chang, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A celebration of life is Friday, Nov 18, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center, with visitation at 1:30 p.m. and service at 3 p.m.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jesse Earl Cole Jr.

Jesse Earl Cole Jr. passed away at Kapiolani Hospital, at the age of 2 on Oct. 16, 2022. He was born on Jan. 14, 2020, in Lihu‘e.

He was preceded in death by great-grandma Dolores Booth.

He is survived by mother Madlyn Lopes, father Jesse Earl Cole, brother Absalom Payne-Lopes, sisters Anaiyah Cole, Zaileia Cole, Zaiyani Cole, Zairey-lei Cole, J’me Anne Teel, grandparents William K. Lopes and Nina Lopes and grandmother Andrea Ramos.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Nov. 12, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m.

Virgie Lacar Fernandez

Virgie Lacar Fernandez passed away on Oct. 23, 2022. She was born on June 29, 1965, in Luna Isabela, Philippines. She worked for Hartung in Kekaha.

She was preceded in death by parents Venancio and Antonia Lacar and brother Roy Lacar.

She is survived by husband Orlando Fernandez, son Adel (Michele Rosemary) Fernandez, daughters Arlyn (Jerry) Butac, Shierlaine Fernandez, sisters Corazon (Thomas) Visitacion, Paulina (Ricardo) Sayno, Encarnacion Eda, brothers Maryrose (Lydia) Lacar and Ernesto (Bannawag) Lacar.

A service is Saturday, Nov. 26, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
