Joan Beverly Hudson

Joan Beverly Hudson, 75, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Nov. 19, 2022. She was born on July 31, 1947, in Los Angeles, and lived on Kaua‘i for 45 years. She was a beloved produce vendor at several Kaua‘i farmers markets for over 25 years, and also made jewelry and hand beaded purses. She was also active in many social and political issues for many years on Kaua‘i.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nathan and Lillian Mattes.

She is survived by her son Aaron Hudson, brothers Lawrence and Fredric Mattes, friend Francisco “Eko” Sadomiano, and many extended family members, friends and acquaintances from Kaua‘i and around the world.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Eleanor Labez Estenzo

Eleanor Labez Estenzo, 83, of Kapa‘a, passed at home on Nov. 15, 2022. She was born in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, on Feb. 3, 1939, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a nurses’ aide.

She was preceded in death by parents Sotero and Consorcia Estenzo, brothers Walter Estenzo and Marco Estenzo and sister Kathy Howell.

She is survived by children Marie Estenzo, Maria “Cecilia” Burns, Fernando Estenzo and Jeanette Estenzo, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings Rosa Dejos, Nelson (Gloria) Estenzo, Gerardo “Larry” Estenzo, Feleilani Phillips and Wilfredo (Tessie) Estenzo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Catherine Church, with viewing from 10 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Michelle ‘Michie’ Matsuko Perlas

Michelle “Michie” Matsuko Perlas passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, surrounded by family, at the age of 51. Born on Jan. 12, 1971, in Lihu‘e, she grew up in Puhi. She worked for state Child Welfare Services as a social worker for 26 years. She helped and served so many clients and children. She enjoyed baking and most of all making Stampin Up cards.

She was preceded in death by parents Damaso and Aurellia “Nina” Perlas.

She is survived by companion Sean Nakamura, sister Alicia Perlas (Tuyrus C.) Miyashiro, brother Michael Perlas, nephews Jordan (Mae) Perlas and Tyrus K. Miyashiro, niece Kaytlyn Perlas, grandnephew Micah Perlas, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life is Thursday, Dec. 15, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by services at 10:45 a.m.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elpidio Manuel Guillermo

Elpidio Manuel Guillermo, 79, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on Nov. 29, 2022. He was born in the Philippines on Sept. 1, 1943, and retired as a landscaper with Na Aina Kai Botanical Garden.

He was preceded in death by father Pio Rumbaoa Guillermo, mother Juliana Manuel Guillermo, stepmother Clemencia Martinez Guillermo, sister Rosita Pascua and brothers-in-law Rizal Aguilar and Sofronia Pascua.

He is survived by children Michelle (Tony) Rapozo, Renee (Randy) Spears, Julie (Mark) Washington, Alan (Alia) Guillermo and Chason Guillermo, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two hanai grandchildren, siblings Filipinas Aguilar, Juanita Guillermo, Ester (John) Dizor and Daisy (Matthew) Markham, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will hold private services.
