Peter Agonoy Batangan

Peter Agonoy Batangan, 79, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 18, 2021. He was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Jan. 31, 1942. He was a retired crew chief supervisor, powerplant operations, at Lihu‘e Plantation Co.

He was preceded in death by parents Rafael Villa and Maria Magdalena Agonoy Batangan and grandson Anthony Ka‘eo Tomacder.

He is survived by wife Helen Lisue Bernades Batangan, son Brandon-Chad Batangan, daughters Annette (Danny) Visitacion, Melanie (Thomas) Goldie, Theresa (Esmer) Erese-Tomacder, Lynna-Marie Batangan and Brenda-Sue (Jill) Batangan, stepson George (Taryn) Erese, stepdaughters Jalene (Ernest) Ramelb, Janel (Kelvin) Moniz and Stacey (Stephanie) Erese, 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family held private services.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Magdalena Padilla

Magdalena Padilla of Hanapepe passed away on Dec. 11, 2020, at the age of 87. She was born on April 2, 1933, in Hanama‘ulu. She was a retired waitress for Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort.

She was preceded in death by parents Pedro and Alejandra Planas, husband Marcelino Padilla, sisters Aurelia Pe Benito Planas Bachiller and Dolores Planas Domenden, and brothers Juan Planas and Gregorio Planas.

She is survived by sons Genaro (Margaret) Padilla of Lawa‘i and James Padilla of Hanapepe, daughters Angie (Burt) Rapanot of Kekaha, Virginia (Joel) Maimon of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu and Donna Padilla of Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, sister Josephine Stone of Honolulu, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 29, at Westside Christian Center, 8041 Kekaha Rd., Kekaha, with a walk-thru visitation at 9 a.m., followed by service at 10 a.m. and burial to at Salt Pond Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face masks are required.

Ezra Reuben Kanoho

Ezra Reuben Kanoho, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 23, 2022. He was born in Lihu‘e on Sept. 16, 1927, and worked as the island manager of Hawaiian Telephone Company for over 40 years, and was also a Hawai‘i state Representative for over 20 years.

He was preceded in passing by wife Pauline, parents Reuben and Isabella Kanoho, and brothers Ralph (Jean) and Alfred (Harriet) Kanoho.

He is survived by sons Reuben Kanoho, Paul (Sherilyn) Kanoho, Solomon (Susan) Kanoho and Ezra (Lynn) Kanoho, siblings Gladiola (Reginald) Feliz and Cecilia (Walter) Young, grandchildren Paul Kanoho, Chanel Williams, Erin Li‘u Kanoho, Isaiah Kai Kanoho, Colbie Kaui Hensley, Justin Kanoho, Erin Maeno and Jordan Oda, great-grandchildren Haweo Kanoho, Makoa Kanoho, Harper Kanoho-Kaohelauli‘i, Cruz Williams and Cainan Williams.

The family requests in lieu of cards and flowers that donations are sent to Kaua‘i Hospice or Lihu‘e First Church (P.O. Box 1812, Lihu‘e, HI, 96766) in the memory of Ezra Kanoho. Private services will be held in the future.

Otilda Moniz Medeiros

Otilda Moniz Medeiros, 101, of Lihu‘e, passed away at Garden Isle Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center on Jan. 18, 2022. She was born on O‘ahu on Feb. 26, 1920, and was a dedicated homemaker.

She was preceded in death by husband Edward Medeiros, daughter Jessie Sam-Fong, and sons Edward Medeiros and Melvin Francis Medeiros.

She is survived by daughter Edwina Saunders, daughter-in-law Jenny Medeiros, 10 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Tsugie S. Azeka

Tsugie S. Azeka passed away on Dec. 14, 2021, at the age of 93. She was born on July 5, 1928 in Waimea. She was a receptionist for Dr. Kanna’s office.

She was preceded in death by parents Shigeichi and Shizue Sakahashi, husband James Azeka, daughter Laurie Odo, sister Sue Kesterman and brother Stanley Sakahashi.

She is survived by son Myles (Faye) Azeka, grandchildren Jamie (Bryson) Toyofuku of Lihu‘e, Bailey (Darryl Matsumura) Azeka of Lihu‘e, Kevin Azeka of Lihu‘e and Taylor Azeka of ‘Ele‘ele, great-grandchildren Keito Matsumura and Miley Matsumura, brother-in-law Clifford Azeka of Honolulu, and sisters-in-law Ayame Katsumoto and Miyoko Sakahashi, both of Honolulu, and Kazuko Azeka of Manhattan Beach, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were privately held.

Sandra Reyes

Sandra Reyes, 79, of Kalaheo, passed away at home on Dec. 29, 2021. She was born on June 15, 1942 in Torrington, Connecticut, and was a retired teacher.

She was preceded in death by parents Anthony and Grace Svetka.

She is survived by husband Solomon “Solo” Reyes, sons Derrick (Rachel Moke) Reyes, Sullivan “Bino” (Virginia) Reyes and Kaiea Kali, daughters Vanessa (Caesar) Duarte and Kimberly “Kimi” (Nicholas) Cachero, hanai daughter Trisha (Kalani) Kamakea, grandchildren Ridge and Harley Rose Cachero, Niyah Flores-Reyes, Hi‘ilani Moke, Noe, Nazareth, Ava and Wailea Reyes, Ronessa (Colten) Yamase, Jamie (Napua) Duarte, Loren (Shantel) Duarte, Nathan and Neil (Jaylynn) Reyes, Nick and Nainoa Reyes and Kalen Vidinha, great-grandchildren Kyrian, Ryleigh and Cyannie Yamase, and Nakili, Axel, Kaiden and Kamden Duarte.

A celebration of life is Friday, Jan. 28, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary chapel in Koloa, with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m.

John Godfredo Gandeza

John Godfredo Gandeza, 75, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Jan. 17, 2022. He was born on Nov. 8, 1946, in Lihu‘e. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War. He was the owner of John Gandeza Photography and later retired from the County of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works.

He was preceded in death by parents Ricardo Gandeza and Tarcila Soriano, brothers Nicasio Asuncion Sr. and Rudy Gandeza and sister Sylvia Camat.

He is survived by wife Callie Gandeza, son Christopher (Taryn) Gandeza, daughter Tamra (Kalani) Addington, granddaughter Wailana Gandeza, grandsons Kailer Chow-Agor and Kade Gandeza, hanai son Roven Poai, stepmother Esther Gandeza, brothers James Gandeza, Joseph (Shelley) Gandeza and Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza, sisters Plebicita Jaquias, Edna (Julio) Bolante, Medina (Andy) Pawley, Jessica (Norvin) Olivas and Florence Gandeza Tavares, sisters-in-law Jackie Gandeza, Lorna Asuncion and Cynthia Johnson, brother-in-law Melvin Camat, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
