Kikue Nagano Yamamoto

Kikue Nagano Yamamoto, 102, of Waimea, passed away on Jan. 11, 2019, in Waimea. She was born on Jan. 29, 1916, in Waimea.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Soichi Yamamoto; daughter, Jean Yamamoto Uyeno.

She is survived by her son, Al (Jean) Yamamoto of Honolulu; daughter, Gloria (Ronald) Matsuba of Kalaheo; grandchildren, Jennifer Uyeno Kostelecky, Christy Matsuba, Gregg (Michelle) Yamamoto; great-grandchildren, Reylan and Aaron Yamamoto, Nicholas and Drew Kostelechy; sisters, Yoshie Ogata of Lihue, Maisie Chow of Lihue, Hazel Takemoto of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services were held.

Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Dionis ‘Nicia’ Niniau Doronio Bernaldes McGihon

Dionis “Nicia” Niniau Doronio Bernaldes McGihon, 68, of Waimea Valley, passed away peacefully at Queens Medical Center on Dec. 20, 2018. Born on June 15, 1950, in Waimea. She was a retired school administrative assistant at Waimea High School and spent her retirement years joyfully serving as a Regular Pioneer with the Kekaha Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Predeceased by father, Dionicio Doronio; brothers, Carlos Doronio, Agapito Doronio Sr. and Stanywick Yadao.

She is survived by her husband, James Bernaldes McGihon of Waimea; son, Marcus “Kulani” (Ena) Bernaldes of Honolulu; daughters, Jacqueline Bernaldes of Waimea, Jamie “Loke” McGihon of Nanakuli, Joycelyn (Marc) Cobb-Adams of Honolulu; mother, Becky Niniau Kualu of Kekaha; hanai-son, John “Kawika” Wilson of Kapaa; 8 grandchildren; brothers, Daniel Doronio of Kea’au, Reuben (Agnes) Doronio of Kekaha; sisters, Amore Camara of Hanapepe, Nora (Cippy) Ragocos of Kekaha, Becky “Honey Bea”(Joseph) Noon of Kentucky; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center Lawn. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. with services to begin at 10:30 a.m. The family suggests aloha attire.

Allison Michiko Uyehara

Allison Michiko Uyehara, 90, of Hanapepe passed away on Jan. 16, 2019, at her home. Born on Oct. 16, 1928, in Waianae, Allison was a retired librarian with Waianae High School.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Uyehara.

She is survived by her son, Dean (Jocelin) Uyehara of Hanapepe; daughter, Carrie (Douglas) Lee of Washington; sister, Evelyn Orita of Oahu; brother, Bert (Ellen) Yamashita of Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion in Hanapepe from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. to noon. Inurnment to follow. There will be a luncheon to follow the inurnment back at the pavilion from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Family suggests casual attire.

Rosita Ruguian Obongen

Rosita Ruguian Obongen, 77, of Kapaa, passed away in Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Jan. 22, 2019. She was born in Batac Ilocos Norte, Philippines on June 13, 1941, and retired from GN Wilcox Hospital as a housekeeper.

Preceded in death by her husband, Bernabe Obongen; son, Bernard Obongen.

Rosita is survived by her partner, Pedro Sagucio; son, Romeo (Fe) Obongen of Fontana, California; daughters, Juliet Obongen of Kapaa, Nancy (Lars) Pedersen of Guildford, United Kingdom, May (Ryan) Castro of Long Beach, California; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Eugenia Lutrania of the Philippines and Lolita Lacaden of Lihue; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at St. Catherine Church with viewing from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. The family requests wearing of aloha or other colorful attire.

Masami ‘Pops’ Kawada

Masami “Pops” Kawada, 93, of Wailua, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 23, 2019. He was born in Lihue on June 18, 1925, and retired from Kauai Commercial as a truck driver.

Preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Kawada; son, Randall Kawada.

Masami is survived by his daughter, Cathy “Sachiko” (Ichiro) Nakamoto of Japan; sons, Clayton (Aurora Ann) Kawada of Lihue, Wilbert (Sun-U) Kawada of Oahu; 2 grandchildren, Arron and Andrew Kawada; 2 great-grandchildren, Adin and Andrew Kawada; sister, Sumi Yamauchi and Sue Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Kapaa First Hawaiian Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11: a.m. Inurnment will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.

Elaine C. Kojiri

Elaine C. Kojiri, 87, of Pakala, passed away on Jan. 31, 2019. Born on Dec. 12, 1931, in Kauai, she was a retired school teacher with Waimea Elemenary School.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tsutomu Kojiri; daughter, Christine Nakaahiki; sister, Annie C. Denison.

She is survived by her son, Clifford Kojiri of Pakala; son-in-law, Lambert Nakaahiki of Waimea; grandchild, Kellen Nakaahiki; great-grandchildren, Payton Nakaahiki, Kiyomi Nakaahiki; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services were held.

Cynthia Ann Helm

Cynthia Ann Helm, 63, of Koloa, born Feb. 16, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, left us peacefully after a brief illness on Jan. 18, 2019. Cindy had a smile for everyone she met and shared her unlimited love and aloha with all.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Charles “Bud” Helm.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Coates; her mother, Nancy Golden; her sisters, Debra (Ernie) Blachowiak and Eve (Gretchen Livesey) Golden; her niece, Juli Blachowiak; stepchildren, Thomas Coates and Amy Kacsh; step-grandchildren, Gaia and Evan Coates, Tony and Alex Kacsh; step-great-grandchildren, Flynn and Kova Coates; numerous step-siblings, step-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The world has lost one of its most wonderful souls. Beloved Cindy will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A simple ceremony and celebration of her life will be held at Poipu Beach Park on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 from 3 p.m. to sunset.

Dennis Marugame

Dennis Marugame, 67, of Puhi, passed away at Straub Medical Center on Jan. 4, 2019. He was born in Lihue on Aug. 22, 1951. He was a plumber with Marugame Plumbing.

He is preceded in death by his father, Hiromi Marugame and mother, Lois Tsuyako Marugame.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Brofka; daughter, Heather Marugame and granddaughter, Lashya Tsuyako Masuda.

Memorial services will be held on March 1, 2019, at Koloa Missionary Church at 6 p.m. and a paddle out will be held on March 2, 2019 at Kalapaki Beach.

Abraham Kuhaulua

Abraham Kuhaulua, 74, of Anahola passed away on Jan. 19, 2019, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was born on Jan. 27, 1944, in Lihue.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin & Mary Kuhaulua, Sr.; brothers, Robert, Benjamin, Abner, John, Mathan Kuhaulua; sisters, Emma Kuhaulua, Lynette Lanning.

He is survived by his brother, Kaleihoku (Sarah) Kuhaulua of Anahola; caregiver and friend, Kalani Rapozo of Anahola; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Anahola Beach Park from 11 a.m. and services will be at 11:30 a.m. Paina to follow. Family suggests casual attire.

Allen Genichi Harada

Allen Genichi Harada, 76, of Kalihiwai passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 24, 2019. He was born in Lihue on March 2, 1942, and was the former proprietor of Hanalei Wishing Well Shave Ice.

Preceded in death by his wife, Diana Rylands; parents, Genichi and Rose Harada.

Allen is survived by his sister, Lily “Mieko” (Wilbert “Afuk”) Tai Hook; brothers, Alfred “Yoshi” Harada and Ray “Bull” Harada; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 5-2950 Kuhio Hwy. at the Tai Hook’s Estate (Kalihiwai) from 10 a.m. to noon.
