Jordan Daniel Kealoha Tehero

Jordan Daniel Kealoha Tehero, a passionate skydiver, 23, of Kalaheo, passed away on June 21, 2019, on Oahu. He was born in Wailuku, Maui, on Oct. 1, 1995, and worked at Blue Knights Services Hawaii as a Security Guard and a Specialist in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Jordan is survived by his parents Garret Tehero and Colleen Anama-Tehero; brothers, Chad Pomaika’i Tehero, Troy (Jenna) Kapena Tehero, Isaac Keahi Tehero; sister Shawnee-Nicole Auli’i Tehero; grandparents, Barbara Anama, Richard (Judy) Anama Sr., Joseph Tehero; 3 nephews, Alaka’i, ‘Aukai and Ashton.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Kauai Veterans Center, in Lihue, with visitation from noon and services beginning at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Mary Kamalu Paikai Medeiros

Mary Kamalu Paikai Medeiros passed away on May 26, 2019, in Kauai. She was born on Dec. 19, 1929 in Honolulu. She was a Tour Guide Driver

She is preceded in death by her father and mother Ebenezer and Mabel Paikai; her husband Gilbert Medeiros; son Joseph Medeiros; grandson Kalama Nobriga; brothers, Ebenezer “Biggie” Paikai, James Paikai, Joe Paika; sisters, May Ho, Miriam Makaena, Shirley Hyman.

She is survived by her sons, Gilbert (Clarita) Medeiros, Antone “Max” (Renee) Medeiros, Hoburn Medeiros; daughters, Elizabeth “Lee” (Jeff) Albao, Gail (Greg) Norbriga, Mary (John) Adviento; step-brother George Mahelona; step-sister Mamo Mahelona; 14 grandchildren, 21, great grand children, and 3 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on July 13, 2019, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Mass will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Family suggests casual attire. Flowers welcome. There will be a burial to follow at a later date.

Mabel Reis Medeiros

Mabel Reis Medeiros, 93, of Kapolei, passed away at home on July 1, 2019. She was born in Eleele on April 30, 1926. She was a housewife.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe (Jose) Medeiros; daughter Linda M. Rita; sons, Joseph Adam, Dominick P. Medeiros; grandson Leonard Rita Jr.; parents William and Mary Reis; brother Adam Reis; sister-in-laws, Annie Reis, Margaret Reis, Dolly Reis.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley A. (Benny) Laguatan; son John W. (Nina) Medeiros; sister Violet (Wallace) Moura; brothers, Alfred, Harry and Thomas Reis; sister-in-law Janet Reis; five grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grand children and numerous nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Holy Cross Parish in Kalaheo on July 18, 2019, with visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass to be held at 10 a.m.

There will be a burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Bertha Jean Souza De Costa

Bertha Jean Souza De Costa of Makaweli, passed away on June 16, 2019, at the age of 83. Born in Koloa on July 10, 1935, she was retired from Big Save Inc.

Preceded in death by parents Frank and Daisy Souza; husband Vincent De Costa; son Michael Alan De Costa; brother, Albert Souza

She is survived by daughter Theresa Christine De Costa Koki of Makaweli; sons, Vincent James (Gerlinda) De Costa of Lawai; Damien Mitchell De Costa Sr. of Kalaheo, Craig Anthony De Costa of Lihue; grandchildren, Keola James (Courtney Brown) De Costa, Vincent Kapono (Kathlen Lee) De Costa, Alanna Kuulei (Taniela Tuakoi) De Costa, Clifton Ikaika De Costa, Nicole Nalani De Costa, Damien Mitchell De Costa, Jr., Sheree Chiemi (Preston) McCormack, Ciarra Kimi (J. Michael Scovel) Koki, Bronson Joel Shigeshi (Beverly) Koki, Holden James Akira (Amber Matsuyoshi) Koki; step-grandchild Kylan John Napualani (Monesa Malapira) Holt; 20 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Sacred Heart of Jesus & Mary Catholic Church, in Waimea. Visitation is at 8:30 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Pedro Felix Constantino Galiza Sr.

Pedro Felix Constantino Galiza Sr., 89, of Puhi, passed away on June 4, 2019. He was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on March 6, 1930, and retired from Kauai Lagoons Hotel as a housekeeper.

Preceded in death by his parents Rufino and Martina Galiza; children, Maria, Delia, Jose Galiza; sister Veronica (Crispin) Ramil; brother Federico Galiza.

Pedro is survived by his wife of 69 years Rosita Galiza; 7 children, Wilmer (Emily) Galiza, Alperica (Florencio) Ramento, Jel “Lito” Galiza, Renato (Mary Jane) Galiza, Imelda (Albert) Honorato, Pedro (Jessica) Galiza Jr., Divina (Gerald) Rapozo; 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; sister Monica Queja of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Dean ‘Ikaika’ Brown-‘Aiwohi

Dean “Ikaika” Brown-‘Aiwohi, 34, passed away on June 8, 2019. Kauai. He was born on March 27, 1985, in Kauai.

He is preceded by his “Grandpa Larry” Lawrence ‘Aiwohi; great-grandparents Antone and Marie Arruda.

He is survived by mother Denise (David) Cremer; brothers and sisters, Ekolu (Jodi) Allianic, Danielle Allianic, Destiny (Chris) Storer, Dj (Kele) Cremer; grandparents Harold Dan and Norma Jean Brown; step-father William (Ruth) Allianic Jr., father Lorrin ‘Aiwohi; brothers and sister, Lorrin “Sonny-Boy” ‘Aiwohi Jr., Lathan ‘Aiwohi, Larson ‘Aiwohi, & Kailee (Kimo) Ortez; grandparents Carol (Loren) Franklin; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and service to follow. Family suggests casual attire. Flowers welcome. A private burial will be held.

Bernard Raymond Almarza

Bernard Raymond Almarza, 79 years old, originally of Kauai, passed away on Feb. 28, 2019, in Kent, Washington. He was born on Dec. 3, 1939, in Honolulu. He retired from Chevron as a truck driver.

Preceded in death by wife Violet Kauo Almarza; brother Roland Almarza; parents Jose and Adela Almarza.

Bernard is survived by sons, Bernie C. (Putsie), Don (Lori) of Lihue; daughters, Sandy (Ipo) Yoshioka of Lihue, Pam (Ricky) Maghanoy of Kent, Washington; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernard is also survived by brother Marius Almarza, of Oahu; sister Amelia “Nene” Fleming of Guam; sister-in-law Charlotte Almarza of Hilo.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation is from 8 to 9:45 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihue Public Cemetery.

Clayton Pihaleo Ah Tong Chow

Clayton Pihaleo Ah Tong Chow of Kapaa, passed away on June 17, 2019, at the age of 61.

He was born in Lihue, on Dec. 12, 1957, and was a CSM Operator for Aqua Engineers, Inc.

He is preceded in death by parents Kenneth and Martha Huddy Chow; sister Lyndell Makanani; brother Michael Chow.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly Chow; son Clay Chow; brother Ken Chow; sister Darlene (George) Thronas; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lihue Kauai Veterans Center

Leonard Freitas

Leonard Freitas, 67, of Koloa, passed away in his home on June 19, 2019. He was born in Lihue on March 6, 1952, to Helen and Theodore Freitas.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy Freitas; his parents; his brothers, Dennis and Damien; two grandchildren, Kalena Freitas and Gerry Rayray, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Kitty Freitas of Lihue, Tracy Freitas (Mike Huffman) of Missouri, Travis Freitas (Christina) of California, Brandon and Bryson Freitas of Arizona; as well as his grandchildren, Ashley Rayray, Jasmine Freitas, Savannah McNaughton, Jayden Celebrado, Noelani Panes; three great grandchildren, Brylon Ash, Avaleyne Sutphin, and Lillianne Sutphin. He is also survived by his sister Arlene Whitten (George) of Koloa.

Leonard worked as a heavy equipment operator for Grove Farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working on his bikes, cars, and cruising around the island.

Everyone who knew Leonard knew him as compassionate, fun-loving and always ready with a joke to make others laugh. He was always willing to give anyone his time and was never one to shy away from a good conversation.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation with family from 9 to 10 a.m., with the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Raphael Cemetery with a lunch reception to follow held in the Church Hall.
