Carl Kainoa ‘Hosey’ Hose Jr.

Carl Kainoa “Hosey” Hose Jr. passed away at his home in Puhi on June 5, 2022, at the age of 71. He was born on Oct. 6, 1950 in Kalaoa, Hawai‘i. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a retired truck driver for Kaua‘i Commercial Company and Aloha Isle Moving.

He was preceded in death by parents Carl Kaainoa Hose Sr. and Margaret Mahi Hose, sisters Margaret Puanani Kephart, Jameslyn U‘ilani Artates, and brother Eric Eremia Hose.

He is survived by sisters Barbara Jeannie Miles, Deanna Mahilani Moala, sons Carl (Donna) Hose, Dillon “Mano” (‘Ilima) Hose Sr., daughter Delilah “Behbeh” (Darrell) Pundyke, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His celebration of life is at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center, on Saturday, July 30, starting at 10:30 a.m.

David Mark Orsatelli

David Mark Orsatelli passed away on June 9, 2022, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 54. He was born on Nov. 14, 1967, on Kaua‘i. He was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by father Stanley A. Orsatelli, mother Mary Mildred Orsatelli, brother Jeffrey Orsatelli, sister Valerie Camara and brother-in-law Clifford Pimental.

He is survived by son Branden David Orsatelli of Lawa‘i, daughters Shaylece Mira Masuda of Lawa‘i, Leinani Awapuhi Okuno-Orsatelli, grandchildren Lashya Masuda, Khloe Orsatelli, Gunner Igne, Sanira Igne, Teiven Garcia and Taylee Garcia, brothers Robert Orsatelli (Cheryle) of Kalaheo, Stanley Orsatelli, Jr. of Lawa‘i, sister Deborah Pimental of Lawa‘i, brother-in-law Wayne Camara of Kalaheo, sister-in-law Bridgette Orsatelli of Kalaheo, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, July 9, at the Kings Chapel in ‘Ele‘ele, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a celebration of life to follow. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Teeana Kaleimokihana Valpoon

Teeana Kaleimokihana Valpoon passed away on Sept. 17, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center at the age of 32. She was born on July 15, 1989, in Lihu‘e and a graduate of Kapa‘a High School. She worked for Wyndham and Kuhio Motors.

She was preceded in death by sister Mistie K. Valpoon, grandfather Clifford Matsushima Sr., and grandmother Beverly Ann Valpoon.

She is survived by son Liloa (Elijah) Ragsac, parents Leah “Teete” (Russell Iida) Matsushima, Amil “Ekolu” (Nani) Valpoon, brother Cody (Ipo) Valpoon, step-brothers Cody and Josh (Rylee Pavao) Mersberg, grandmother Katherine Matsushima, grandfather Amil “Tinoa” Valpoon, nephews Lokahi, Lawai‘a, Kaikoa, niece Lihau, numerous aunties, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life is Saturday, July 16, at Koolau Huiia Church, Anahola with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by service at noon.

Anson Gunji Fujimoto

Anson Gunji Fujimoto passed away on June 23, 2022, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 41. He was born on Feb. 18, 1981, in Waimea. He was a caregiver.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Basilio and Esperanza Cabacungan Funtanilla, Robert G. and Hatsumi Akiyama Fujimoto, nephew Cayd Fujimoto, uncle David G. Fujimoto, aunts Kathleen Kure and Eileen Powell.

He is survived by parents Robert and Toni Funtanilla Fujimoto of Hanapepe, brothers Craig Fujimoto of Hanapepe, twin-Mason Fujimoto of Hanapepe, uncle Franklin Funtanilla (Stephanie) of ‘Ele‘ele, aunts Cora Fujimoto of Torrance, California, Colleen Pantohan of Makaweli, Peggy Sun (Leland) of Burbank, California, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, July 9, at the Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m.

Duane Allen Girard passed away on June 22, 2022, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, at the age of 60. He was born on Aug. 19, 1961, in Norway. He was self employed with Girard Quality Cleaners.

He is survived by wife Rosemelia Battulayan Girard, sons Damien Girard of Lihu‘e, Travis Girard of Lihu‘e, Nicholas Girard of Lihu‘e, daughter Tiffany Girard of Lihu‘e, parents Raymond and Alice Girard of Texas, brother Paul Girard of Honolulu, sisters Ann Pawly (Mike) of Texas, Laurie Ingoes (Brad) of Idaho, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, July 9, at the Koloa Church Assembly of God, the white church next to Koloa School with visitation 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Shirley “Loling” Fuertes Medeiros, 83, of Koloa, passed away on May 15, 2022, in Lihu‘e. She was born on July 12, 1938, in Waimea. She worked as an Arts and Crafts Instructor for the County of Kaua‘i’s Office of Elderly Affairs.

She is preceded in passing by her parents Basilio B. and Rosario L. Fuertes Sr, in-laws Mildred Fuertes, Mokihana Malama III, Sam Vierra, Gareth Ueno, Leonard W. Medeiros, Lawrence and Gwendolyn Carveiro, Thomas DePonte Sr, nephews Mokihana Malama IV, John Jay Boy Marshall Perry Jr and Bronson Fuertes Sr.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband John Ventura Medeiros Jr, children John A. (Kimberley) Medeiros, Mark A. (Cheryl Polikapu-Medeiros) Medeiros, Paul A. Helen Ramones, 96, a one time resident of Wailua Homesteads, passed away on May 16, 2022 in Topeka, Kansas, where she lived with her daughter Valerie Ramones-Blair (Tom) for 9 years. Helen was born in Kona, Hawai‘i.

She is survived by daughter Valerie Ramones-Blair (Tom), son Richard (Karen), three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, Aug. 9, starting at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Stella Tsuruyo Nakamasu Miyoshi, 90, of Kapa‘a, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 27, 2021. She was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Lihu‘e. She was a sales clerk at Kojima’s, Yasuda’s, Happy Kauaian, and S & S Business.

She was preceded in death by parents Takejiro and Thelma Nakamasu, husband Charles Miyoshi, grandson Preston Ikehara-Yasay, great-grandson Alden Fujise, brother Ernest Nakamasu and sister Florence Wakuta.

Marina B. Balagat, 93, of Hanama‘ulu, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 28, 2022, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was born in Dingras, Philippines on Nov. 29, 1928 and retired as a cook from Tip-Top Cafe.

She was preceded in death by parents Apolonio and Gaudencia Ballesteros, husband Guillermo Balagat Sr.son Guillermo Balagat Jr., brothers Aquilino and Elpedio Ballesteros.

He was preceded in death by parents Valentin and Fermina Dela Cruz, wife Consuelo Dela Cruz, brothers Mariano, Ruperto, Wenceslao and Honesto and sister Filomena.

Masajiro Habu passed away on June 27, 2022, at Sterling Ridge Assisted Living Center, at the age of 99. He was born on May 27, 1923, in Lihu‘e. He retired in 1985 as a welder for McBryde Sugar Company and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by parents Uichiro and Okame Habu, sisters Yasuno Fujii, Annie Iwamoto and son-in-law Vicente Fermin.

He is survived by wife Marjorie Habu, just made 69 year wedding anniversary, son Derek (Hana) Habu, daughter Corine Fermin, sister Satsuki Yokote, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Inurnment to be at a later date at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Sovaleni Malani Isaiah Lucidarme-Musika

Sovaleni Malani Isaiah Lucidarme-Musika, of Wailua, passed away peacefully at his home on May 7, 2022, at the age of 26. He was born on April 23, 1996, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents Bill and Mardi Lucidarme, Fusae and Rufino Castillo, grandparents Ronald Charles Lucidarme, Alamita Lemani Musika and Uncle Robby Scott Silva.

He is survived by mother Nicole Lucidarme (Junya Ramos), father Uasi F. Musika, sister Vaimoana Musika (Tyrell Aipa-Rivera), hanai brother Raymond Duarte, children Anelakai Lucidarme-Rapozo, Kainakoa Lucidarme-Rapozo, grandparents Ka‘ohu and Carolyn Cummings and Sova Musika Sr.
