Rosaria ‘Sayong’ Sialana

Rosaria “Sayong” Sialana, 79, of Kekaha, passed away on June 10, 2022 in Honolulu. She was born on December 30, 1942, in Waimea. She was a hostess at the Sheraton Kaua‘i for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by parents Jose and Juanita Sialana, siblings Lily Sialana, Pedro Delima, Lynette (Notse) Sialana, Cayetano (Manong) Delima and Richard (Dickie) Sialana.

She is survived by daughter Tami Sialana Faumuina, grandchildren Keahi (Ann) Thompson, Kekai Thompson, Ariel Faumuina, Gabrielle Faumuina and Samuel Faumuina, great-grandchildren Ada and Viggo Thompson, siblings Cecilia Thiel, Christopher (Betty) Sialana, Rodney (Genevieve) Sialana, Cornelia Taylor, Jessica Danahy, Jose “Kanoi” Sialana Jr., Beverly (Dennis) Hutchinson, Phyllis Sialana and Apryle (Alton) Fujisaki, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held on Saturday, June 10, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

Pacita Ringor Melchor

Pacita Ringor Melchor passed away on May 13, 2023, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 88. She was born on March 28, 1935, in the Philippines. She was retired.

She was preceded in death by husband Marcelo Melchor, parents Antonio and Antonia Ringor, brother Emilio Ringor and sister Leonora (Mauro) Valvieja.

She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Ringor of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Reggie Acoba of Lihu‘e and Leslie Acoba of Lihu‘e, brother Remigio (Villanerva) Ringor of Kapa‘a, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is at Lihu‘e United Church, 4340 Nawiliwili Road, Lihu‘e, on Saturday, June 10. Viewing is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Carlen Leona (Miranda) Peralta

Carlen Leona (Miranda) Peralta, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on May 1, 2023, in Waimea, at the age of 70. She was born on July 27, 1952, on O‘ahu. She was a waitress and seamstress.

She was preceded in death by father Leon Corrales Miranda, mother Avelina Torcuato Miranda, brother Arden Jay Miranda and sisters Glanis Miranda Slater and Wynne Arlene Miranda Akana.

She is survived by husband Wilfred “Bull” Peralta, sons Jarvin (Maia) Peralta and Leon Cory Miranda, daughters Tanya (Marvin) Peralta-Jardin and Chlorie Peralta (Sean) Igne, grandchildren Kelsie (Tiana) Igne-Samio, Stetson (Seanne) Igne, Alyssa and Colby Jardin, Jelacia and Jamie-Lee Peralta and Amanda and Amber Jardin, great-grandchildren Anuhea and Mohala Igne and Atlis and Adakis Igne-Samio, and sisters Lauren (Romulado) Felipe and Cliti Shepherd.

A celebration of life is Saturday, June 10, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by prayer services. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Davin M. ‘Jabba’ Garcia

Davin M. “Jabba” Garcia, 56, of Hanama’ulu, passed away on March 9, 2023. He was born in Lihue on Oct. 12, 1966, and worked at Flying Food Group.

He was preceded in passing by parents Lucas and Lourdes (Nelmida) Garcia.

He is survived by sister Suzanne Kashima, brother Dominic (Sharlene) Garcia and sons Jordan Garcia, Luke Garcia and Joshua Garcia.

A celebration of life is at the Niumalu Canoe Club (Kalapaki) on Saturday, June 10, starting at 11 a.m.

Hiroo Masuda

Hiroo Masuda passed away on April 26, 2023, at Pali Momi Hospital in Honolulu, at the age of 84, surrounded by his daughter and grandchildren. He was born on Kaua‘i on March 1, 1939.

He was a retired captain at the Crash Fire Rescue station at Lihu‘e Airport. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by parents Tadao and Shizue Masuda, siblings George and Oscar Masuda, Elaine Fujii, Naomi Sokei and Gail Kodama.

He is survived by wife Kirsten Masuda, daughter Leanne (Patrick) Rosa, son Kyle Masuda, brother David (Myrna) Masuda, grandchildren Branden Orsatelli, Shaylece Masuda, Shayna, Shyann and Shalene Rosa, Kyle Jr., Kysen, Kyndall, Kia‘i a malama and Kaikea Masuda, great-grandchildren Lashya Masuda, Gunner Igne, Khloe Orsatelli and Sanira Igne, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family may visit with the family on Saturday, June 17, at Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. and services will follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Miyoji Furusho

Miyoji Furusho passed away on May 9, 2023, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 98.

He was born on June 22, 1924, on the island of Hawai‘i. He was a carpenter, insurance salesman and owner of a pest control company.

He was preceded in death by wife Natsuko Furusho, brothers Tatsuyoshi and Hiroshi Furusho, sister Toyoko Yamashita, son-in-law Richard Down and grandson Jason Down.

He is survived by sons Craig (Lindy) Furusho and Russell (Lani) Furusho, daughters Vivian (Alan) Nozaki and Carol Down, grandchildren Aiko (Nate) Silva, Jared Furusho, Darrin Furusho, Kyle (Emily) Furusho and Jon Furusho, great-grandchildren Ben, Adeline, Malakai, Stephanie, Emi, Titus and Ezekiel, brothers Paul S. Furusho and Goro Furusho, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service is June 21, at the Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene, 4476 Pepe Road, Hanapepe. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Keith Tsugio ‘Kuni’ Kunioka

Keith Tsugio “Kuni” Kunioka, of Wailua, flew with angels on March 11, 2023. He was born on Kaua‘i on Nov. 13, 1954. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and retired TSA, USDA and Aloha Airlines employee.

He was preceded in passing by his honorable father Robert Kunioka and brother-in-law Ed Kunioka-Volz.

He is survived by his beloved wife Monica Kunioka, son Tyson Rabago, daughters Tiana (Ka‘eo) Lopez and Takara (Torren Kimura) Kunioka, mother Dorothy Kunioka, sisters Karen (Randy) Kawate and Sheri Kunioka-Volz, brother Scott Kunioka, cherished grandchildren Nevaeh Arruda-Kapu, Tyson Arruda-Rabago, Hina‘ea Alapa, Kanoa, Aria, Kiwahakai, Ka‘ana and Ka‘eoKai Lopez, Alina Kimura, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life is at Kealia Pukas Ministries on June 10, starting at 10 a.m., with paddle-out to follow.

Peter Makarewicz

Peter Makarewicz, 74, of Kilauea, passed away on April 17, 2023 at home.

Born Sept. 1, 1948, he was a retired real estate broker and Vietnam combat veteran who loved to surf and ride motorcycles.

He is survived by his loving daughter Sonja Cabebe, son-in-law Koa, grandchildren Kalai and Keawe Cabebe, and brother Conrad Makarewicz.

A celebration of life is at ‘Anini Beach Park (Pavilion #2) on June 25, starting at noon.

Louise Jeanette Silva

Louise Jeanette Silva arrived into this world on Dec. 12, 1934. She was surrounded by her loving family when our Lord called her home on May 13, 2023. She was a kind person who was loved by many. She worked in retail and retired from Hopaco.

She was preceded in death by husband Richard Silva, parents John and Mary Santos, sisters Lillian Perreira, Betty Gomes and Bella Ilalaole and brothers Manuel Santos and Kenneth Santos.

She is survived by son Wayne (Denise) Silva, daughters Sharon (Duane) Hahn, Joyce Pasion and Lisa (Roger) Taniguchi, grandchildren Christy Lagundino, Keola (Neoma) Silva, Duane (U‘i) Silva, Waylon Silva, Dunavan Hahn, Jazmine (Johnathan) Strand, Wyatt (Paige) Taniguchi and Cody Taniguchi, seven great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed serving our Lord, gardening, fishing, and being with family and friends.

Her celebration of life is June 10 at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. with service to follow. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.

Epifanio ‘Panio’ Oroc

Epifanio “Panio” Oroc, of Kekaha, passed away on May 26, 2023, at the age of 94. Born in Makaweli Camp 8 on May 31, 1928, he retired as a cultivation supervisor at Olokele Sugar Company.

He was predeceased by parents Gregorio and Mary Candida Oroc, sister Sr. M. Candida Oroc, OSF and son Robert Peter Oroc.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Gregoria “Jeannie” of Kekaha, children Eric (Melia) Oroc of Honolulu, Elizabeth (John) Perea of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i Island, Gregory (Rita) Oroc of Wisconsin and Stephanie (JJ) Bostick of Kekaha, grandchildren Christine Oroc, Chandra Oroc, Robert Brad Oroc, Michelle Mackler, Erin Oroc, Eric Oroc, Marc Oroc, Ruben Andrian, Chelsea Oroc, Danielle Patterson, Adam Oroc and Samantha Bostick, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 24, at Waimea Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Edwin, and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Madeline Margaret (Née Manus) Braddock

Madeline Margaret (Née Manus) Braddock passed away peacefully at 87 in Waimea on May 17, 2023.

Born Feb. 21, 1936, in Koloa, she graduated from Kaua‘i High School in 1954 then enlisted into the Women’s Army Corps. In 2015, she returned home to Kaua‘i from Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by parents Danny Sr. and Lucy Manus, husband Charles P. Braddock, and daughter Elizabeth Braddock, with whom who she has reunited.

Her love and caring spirit remain in the hearts of her brother Danny Manus Jr., her son Bill and daughter-in-law Diane Braddock, and her beloved granddaughter Helen and Arrow Salkeld (Helen’s partner).

Aloha ‘oe, Madeline, until we meet again.

Brenda Lee Durant

Brenda Lee Durant, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on June 1, 2023, at the age of 75, at Wilcox Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 13, 1948. She was a beloved Mother, GrandmaMa and Kaua‘i’s “Laulau Lady.”

She was preceded in death by parents Alfred Medeiros, Lillian Santos Perreira and John Perreira, sisters Louise Medeiros and Mary Kealoha and great-granddaughter Lily Durant.

She is survived by husband Butch Durant, sons Roland (Kristy) Durant and Robert Durant, daughters Renie (Darren) Judd, Kanani (Jack Flores) Durant and Kahea Durant, grandchildren Kalae, Kehau, Moani, Kaulana, Wailana, Kalawaia, Kaliloa, Kekauakoa, Jacey, Nohiu, Puahi, Kilo and Heleonahe, nine great-grandchildren, brothers Alfred (Helena) Medeiros, Wayne (Shirley) Medeiros and John Perreira Jr., sisters Elaine Kealoha, Eleanor Haumea, Clara Leasau, Donna Medeiros and Lillian “Cookie” Thomas, aunty Evelyn Cabral, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is Saturday, June 10, at her home in Kapaia Valley, located at 4337 Kapaia Road, Lihu‘e, at 12:00 noon. The family requests casual attire and welcomes lei and flowers.
