Shirley Jane Ipac

Shirley Jane Ipac of Eleele passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on May 9, 2019, at the age of 71. She was born on Kauai on March 2, 1948, and was a dedicated homemaker and caretaker, and worked as a housekeeper at Poipu Kapili.

She was preceded in death by husband Juan “Keawe” Ipac, parents Frank and Jennie Jane Simao, brother Michael Simao, and sister Patsy Alayvilla.

She is survived by daughter Jennie (Vill Jr.) Balisacan, sons John Ipac and Justin (Ashley) Ipac, brothers Frank Simao Jr. and Patrick Simao, sisters Theresa Mahuiki and Diane (Michael) Carvalho, grandchildren Jacie (Shaun) Ipac, Javin (Jaecie) Balisacan, Joshua Aceret-Ipac, Jondelle Aceret-Ipac, Cerriah Ipac-Perreira and Jusiah Perreira-Ipac, great-grandchildren J’sha Kawamura, J’zen Kawamura, Kingsley Malama-Balisacan, Jairae Aceret-Ipac, Jahstice Aceret-Ipac, Jaydam Ipac and Jayzden Ipac, and numerous uncle, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 25, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 8640 Kiowea Road, at the corner of Elepaio and Aukuu roads in Kekaha, with visitation is at noon and services at 1 p.m.

The family requests aloha attire and welcomes lei.

Marquita Maria Granda

Marquita Maria Granda, 66, passed away in her home in Lihue on Friday, March 8, 2019. Born Oct. 23, 1952 in Sacramento, California, she had a brief career in real estate while struggling with lupus for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by mother Angeline Amavisca and father Anthony Granda.

She is survived by siblings Duke, David and John Granda, Monique Granda Wishniewsky and Elaine Granda Gramatzki, half-brothers Gilbert Jones and Mark Amavisca, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to partake in a potluck and celebration of life at noon Sunday, May 26, at Kamalani Kai (Tim Bynum) Bridge pavilion area at Kitchens.

George Kauhaku Mundon

George Kauhaku Mundon, 63, passed away at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Honolulu on Tuesday April 30, 2019.

He is survived by mother Leona Mundon-Kahoonei of Hilo, father Richard Kahoonei of Hilo, sister Laurilyn (Frank) Puni of Anahola, sister Kennydeane Kane of Kapaa, family friend Camie Kaohelauli‘i of Anahola, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe on Tuesday, May 28, at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire.

Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Duane L. Glasgow Jr.

Duane L. Glasgow, Jr. passed away at his residence in Makaweli on May 12, 2019, at the age 67. He was born on March 21, 1952, in San Diego, and was a veteran retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by wife Vicki Jo Glasgow, father Duane Glasgow, mother Mary Glasgow, stepmother Brenda Glasgow, daughter Shasta D. (Ray) Rapozo of Makaweli, grandchildren Sharay, Misty and Riley Rapozo, sister Vicky (Dougie) Brandt of Kekaha, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services were held.

Arrangements were provided by Garden Island Mortuary.

Claudia Mitsue Otsuka

Dec. 30, 1951 – April 3, 2019

Claudia M. Otsuka passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in San Jose, California. Born Dec. 30, 1951, in Lihue, she grew up on a farm in Kalaheo. There were many happy days with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by parents Yoshito and Rose Yamasaki, brother Darrel Yamasaki (survived by wife Enid of Severn, Maryland), and sister Audrey Yamasaki.

She enjoyed a long career at Hewlett Packard Company, gaining many close friends. She then began raising her children full time. She also enjoyed jogging on the Campbell track with her close-knit group of friends.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Warren, and daughters Kimberly and Kelly, brother Clyde Yamasaki and his wife, Marlene, of Torrance, California.

A family service will be held Monday, May 20, at 10 am at Hanapepe Hongwanji. Her wish was to be with her parents at their church on Kauai.

Steven Paul Hilbert

A celebration of life and memorial for Steven Paul Hilbert of Kekaha (May 2, 1954-Jan. 23, 2019) will be held at Polihale State Park on the beach fronting Fisherman’s pavilion at noon on Saturday, June 1 with a paddle-out.

Bring loose flowers, but not string lei. After the paddle-out, all are invited to gather at Joel’s house, 4471 Mamo Road, Kekaha.

Come meet friends and family, share stories, and celebrate his life.

Fausto Sambajon Torres

Fausto Sambajon Torres, 85, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2019. He was born in Poblacion West, Nagbukel, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on July 22, 1933, and retired from the hotel and tourism industry as a houseman.

He was preceded in death by parents Guillermo and Crispina Torres and infant son Francis Torres.

He is survived by wife Regina Cabico Torres, children Sonny Torres, Juanita (Richard) Agaran, Boni (Cathy) Torres, Clarence Melba Torres, Anabel (Rhod) Giron of Lanai City, and Robert Torres, siblings Maria Torres and Remy Luzano of the Phillipines, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebration at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Church Cemetery.

Diana Napua Nakamura

Diana Napua Nakamura, 81, of Kapaa, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on April 26, 2019. She was born in Lihue on June 21, 1937, and retired as a housekeeper with Pono Kai Resort.

She was preceded in death by husband Hidemi Nakamura, parents James and Margaret Panui, sister Kanani Kahaunaele, brother Paul Panui, and brother-in-law Michael Chandler.

She is survived by sons Reid Nakamura and Jeffrey Chandler Jr., sister Merilee Chandler, brother James (Carmen) Panui Jr., brother-in-law David Kahaunaele, sister-in-law Elaine Panui, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at 3061 Kalihiwai Road.
