Kelmar Hi‘ilani Kanahele

Kelmar Hi‘ilani Kanahele passed away on Oct. 18, 2020, at the age of 65, at Wilcox Medical Center.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1954, in Waimea, and was a master Ni‘ihau shell lei maker.

He was preceded in death by dad Donald H. Kanahele and mom Annie K. Kanahele.

He is survived by his hanai sons Kawelo Schweitzer of O‘ahu, Leleo (Lokhi Orian) Knappenberger of O‘ahu and Ka‘eo Izon of O‘ahu, hanai daughters Cheryl W. (John) Kahokuloam, Hi‘ipoi (Hopate) Vakameilau, Naniwai Kanahele, Tiffany Kanahele, Hiwa Kanahele, Poni Kahale, Nuggiez Kanahele, Kahikiui (Brian) Gerardo, Nawai (Alan) Kahale and Sydney (Sanjah) Morton, grandchildren John Austin K. Kaohelauli‘i, Kelly W. Kahokulo, Kuramatsu K. Kahokuloa, Ashlee Teighlor K. Kahokuloa, Ane Kanahele Vakameilau, Briton Kanahele, Kalele Kanahele, Kulama Kanahele, Moan Kanahele, Hiwa Boy Morton, Ki‘ai Morton, Amileah Morton, Ariah Morton, Dayson Kaohelauli‘i, Dawson Kauohelauli‘i, Kahikilani Kaohelauli‘i, Tatum Kaohelauli‘i, Luka Kanahele, Hi‘ilani Kanahele, Brianne Kanahele, Brylynn Kanahele, Bradon Kanahele, Maymay Kanahele, Lindy Delle Kanahele, Hemolele Kanahele, Wyatte Ikaika Kanahele and Oliwa Kanahele, brother Joseph Keoua (Maryann) Kanahele of Kaua‘i, sisters Ida (Gordon) Ka‘aumoana of Ni‘ihau, Diane (Bernard) Kanahele of Kaua‘i, Annie (George) Kanahele of Kaua‘i and Kay (Isaac) Kanahele of Kaua‘i.

A walk through/talk story is at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m., with a celebration of life at 10 a.m. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing, face masks and sanitized hands are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret Florendo

Margaret Florendo passed away on Oct. 31, 2020, at the age of 83, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 12, 1937, in Waimea.

She was preceded in death by son Ken J. Florendo, parents Premetvo and Felamina Ortiz, and sisters Lucy Ortiz and Bella Ortiz.

She is survived by husband Casamero Florendo Sr., sons Casamero (Patricia) Florendo Jr. of Kekaha, Preston Florendo of Kapa‘a, Hamilton Florendo of Kalaheo and Kirk Florendo of Kekaha, daughters Corina Florendo of Honolulu and Natasha Florendo of Kekaha, grandchildren Madelle, Shalayah and Liam, great-grandchild Mikiala, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins,

Due to COVID-19, a service is scheduled for a later date.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Florendo ‘Randy’ Oligo

Florendo “Randy” Oligo passed away on Nov. 6, 2020, in Kekaha, at the age of 61.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1959, in Waimea, and was a security guard for Koi security company.

He was preceded in death by Faustino Omo Oligo Sr., Magadalina Pajela Oligo and Faustino Oligo Jr.

He is survived by wife Francine “MZ Fran” Oligo, son Clesson Kaliko (Jessa) Oligo of Denver, daughter Randi Lee “Noe” (Riley Refamonte) Oligo of Kekaha, grandchildren Hunter Oligo, Starr Lee Oligo, Kaleah Oligo and Hadley Oligo, brothers Fred (Loke) Oligo of Kekaha, sister Felicia Bukoski of ‘Oma‘o, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 13, with a walk-through from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Garden Island Mortuary.

The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Hazel Mitsuko Yanagida

Hazel Mitsuko Yanagida, 85, of Lynnwood, Washington, formerly of Kapa‘a, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19, 2020. Born on April 7, 1935 in Lihu‘e, she was an office manager for Dr. Kenneth Fujii and Dr. Paul Esaki.

She was preceded in death by parents Yoichi and Kaoru Araki Watada, husband James Yanagida, sisters Ruth Watada and Betty Uchiyama, and son-in-law Ken Miyoshi.

She is survived by daughters Joy Miyoshi of Honolulu and Everett, Washington and Linda (Mark) Naea of Lynnwood, Washington, grandchildren Kelsey (Nicole) Miyoshi of Lynnwood, Washington, Kori Miyoshi of Honolulu and Everett, Washington, and Brennan and Brianna Naea of Lynnwood, Washington, great-granddaughter Amelia Miyoshi of Lynnwood, Washington, sisters Jane (Charles, deceased) Hoshino and Nancy (Sherman, deceased) Takata, both of Honolulu, sister-in-law Fusako Harada of Kilauea, best friend Edith Ushio of Lihu‘e, and numerous other family members and lifelong friends.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and required social distancing, a small, private service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Barton Family Funeral Service and Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home are assisting the family with arrangements.
