Joseph James Lee

Joseph James Lee passed away on Sept. 26, 2022, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 98. He was born on June 27, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a T.V. and Appliance Repair Business owner and a retired Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by father Hong Lee, mother Ying Lee, brothers Henry and Fred Lee, sisters Mary Wu, Margaret Wong, May Wong, Marie Lee and former wife Darlene Lee.

He is survived by sister Dorothy Spencer of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, daughters Sandra (David) Lee-To of Excelsior Minnesota, Barbara (Jody) Lee of Coucil Bluffs, Iowa, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation with family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with celebration of life services to follow at 11 a.m. Private scattering of ashes will be at Poipu on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022. The family requests casual attire and omit flowers.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Damascio Ruiz Jr.

Damascio Ruiz Jr., 83, of Koloa, passed away on Nov. 3, 2022, in Oma‘o. He was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Waimea and was a retired Air Traffic Control Technician with the Hawaii Air National Guard.

He was preceded in death by parents Margaret and Damascio Ruiz Sr., sisters Rose Medeiros, Shirley Cambra, sister-in-law Edith Ruiz, brothers-in-law Herbert Cambra, John Vegas Sr. and granddaughter Keala Ruiz.

He is survived by wife Thelma (Fu) Ruiz of Oma‘o, sons Lindell Ruiz of Oma‘o, John (Lisa) Ruiz of Hanapepe, Ross (Janel) Ruiz of Oma‘o, daughters Laurie Ann Ruiz of Oma‘o, Shari Ann Ruiz of Kalaheo, Raynette (Nathan) Chun of Oma‘o, brother Donald Ruiz of Arizona, sisters Mary Jane Vegas of O‘ahu, Emily Ruiz of California, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, Dec. 10, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i, with viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. and celebration of life services to follow. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Rebecca ‘Becky’ Helen Mumley

Rebecca “Becky” Helen Mumley passed away on Nov. 12, 2022, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. She was born on Dec. 18, 1946, in Vermont. She was a retired nurse for Saint Francis Home Care.

She was preceded in death by parents Carl and Glennis Mumley and husband Stanley Saraos.

She is survived by son David (Donna) Saraos, brother John Mumley and five grandchildren.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Dec. 17, at Anini Beach beginning at noon.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Julia Mitsue Yamahiro

Julia Mitsue Yamahiro, 90, of Waimea, passed away on Nov. 2, 2022 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home. She was born on July 16, 1932, in Koloa.

She was preceded in death by husband Noboru Yamashiro.

She is survived by son Ken (Jessica) Yamahiro of Waimea, daughter Gayle (Jed) Kaiakapu of ‘Ele‘ele, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be announced at a later date.
