Keola Sean Picerno

Keola Sean Picerno passed away on March 15, 2023. He was born on Sept. 27, 1973. He was a bus driver for the Kaua‘i Bus.

He is survived by mother Haunani Picerno Manrique, father Robert Picerno, children Nainoa Picerno, Tiare Picerno, brothers Keoni Picerno, Tim Picerno, Keli‘i Manrique, Kaua‘i ‘ohana Uncle Tony and Aunty Tracey Camara, Aunty Vanya Fagasa, Akoni, Tansy Mae, Leici, Lainee and BreeAnn Camara, Ernie and Keiran Camara, Jasmin Camara, James and Serina Tavares, Johnathon, Juice and Liloa Rivera, Shawn and Rose Tavares, Shelbee Tavares (Noah Silva), Bladezee Tavares, Traci Simao, Rick, Lori, Kanai, Ryno and Hiilawe Banasihan and Lorna Ouderkirk.

Keola was a loving father, son, nephew, cousin, brother and uncle.

He will always be in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the Salt Pond big pavilion starting at noon.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Abraham ‘Abe’ Peralta Aquino

Abraham “Abe” Peralta Aquino passed away peacefully at home with his beloved family by his side on Sept. 27, 2023. He was born on Dec. 10, 1946, in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, Philippines. He retired from Aston at Poipu Kai Resort where he was an outstanding employee for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Adoracion Aquino, whom are now receiving him with open arms in heaven.

He is survived by his wife Presentacion “Precy” Aquino, daughters Eliza (Alexander) Butac, Elvie (Josue Guzman) Aquino, son Rolly Aquino, grandchildren Leo Daniel (Marjorie) Butac, Yasmine Ware (Nick Agosto), great-grandchildren Louis Butac, Lucas Butac, numerous brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins on the island of Kaua‘i, on the many islands of the Philippines, as well as around the world.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Ma‘alo Road, Lihu‘e. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Robert Frank Jones

Robb Jones, “Robert Frank Jones”, passed away May 22, 2023, under hospice care at home on Kaua‘i.

Beloved husband of Rose Anne Jones, beloved brother of Betty Keller of Arizona, step-father to Kathryn Kewley of Colorado, Chris Adame of Arkansas, “Gramps” to Sean, Tim, Lizzy and Anna. Robb touched many more lives on Kaua‘i through his active role at Center for Spiritual Living Kaua‘i as a Spiritual Practitioner and Live-Stream Guru; at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists as a talented artist and volunteer, and all over Kaua‘i as a general handyman and Uber driver.

Born and raised in Leadville and Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Robb earned a B.A. Degree in Fine Art in Denver. He and Rose Anne moved to Honolulu in 2004 and retired to Kaua‘i in 2011. Robb’s kindness, helpfulness and sense-of-humor touched many people near and far. His curiosity about everything in life from tiny electrons to the vastness of outer space kept him always interested and interesting! He is greatly missed by his family and friends. Robb’s Celebration of Life Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the Center for Spiritual Living next to the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission, 4-1170 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa.

Donald Wayne Duarte

Donald Wayne Duarte passed away on Sept. 20, 2023, at the age of 88 years old. He was born on Dec. 13, 1934, in Koloa. He was a heavy-duty tire repair technician, and a veteran of the U.S. armed services.

He was preceded in death by parents Caesar and Rosalina Duarte, brothers Caesar Jr. and Ronald Duarte, sister Elizabeth Duarte and son-in-law Clifford Rafanan.

He is survived by wife Elizabeth “Betty” Duarte of Anahola, sons Donald (Joyce) Duarte Jr. of Maui, Keith (Michelle) Duarte of Maui, Kenneth (Irene) Duarte of Maui, daughters Lisa Rafanan of Maui, Donette Duarte of Anahola, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i on Oct. 27, 2023. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., celebration of life at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.

The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Henry Toshio Hamada

Marian Chiyako Hamada

The Hamada family is sad to announce the passing of Henry Toshio Hamada, and his wife, Marian Chiyako Hamada. Henry passed away on Aug. 21, 2023, at the age of 93, and Marian passed away on Oct. 12, 2023, at the age of 87. Both passed away peacefully in their home in Kapa‘a surrounded by loving family. They first met each other at Diamond Head for the Deaf & Blind known today as Hawai‘i School for Blind & Deaf.

Henry is preceded in passing by his parents Kanichi and Chieno Hamada, brothers George, James, Wallace, Albert, Samuel, sisters Ruth, Nellie and granddaughter Shelby Hamada.

Marian is preceded in passing by her parents Kiyoshi and Sadako Sueoka, sister Jean Fukumori, brothers Harold and Chester Sueoka, and granddaughter Shelby Hamada.

Both Henry and Marian are survived by their children, Kelvin (Dawn) Hamada of Honolulu, Rex (Suzie) Hamada of Mililani, Susan (Lance) Kubota of Kapa‘a, Stella (Jeff) Daniels of Seattle, grandchildren Devin (Marci) Hamada, Courtney (Devin) Hamada, Nicole Kubota, Shantelle (Adam) Morris, Heather Kubota, Jarrett (Trish) Hamada, Kira Daniels, Jana (Jesse) Colandrea, Jordan (Jessica) Chun, Jared (Brandi) Chun, Joslyn (Casey) Hamada, great-grandchildren Evan Morris, Remy Morris, Connor Morris, Micah Morris, Raiden Hamada, Mitzi Kubota, Sadame Kubota, Ethan Chun, Malachi Chun, Chloe Colandrea, Emma Colandrea, Liam Mira, Tailea Chun, Tahia Chun, Kole Hamada, Dax Hamada, Marian’s sister, Doris (Roy Yamashita) Kimura, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives are welcomed to celebrate Henry and Marian’s life at the Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
