Gilbert ‘Sooky’ N. Fernandes
Gilbert “Sooky” N. Fernandes passed away on Jan. 24, 2023, in Mililani, O‘ahu, at the age 91. He was born on Aug. 2, 1931 in Lihu‘e. He retired as an engineering services manager at Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar.
He was preceded in death by wife Nira N. Fernandes, father Frank B. Fernandes, mother Emily S. Fernandes, brother Raymond C. Fernandes and sister Dorothemae Fernandes Drumeller.
He is survived by partner Penny A. Kamoku, sons Gilbert N. (Sue Botti) Fernandes Jr., Frank B. Fernandes, Guy D. (Andrea) Fernandes and Kirk J. (Karen Rowan) Fernandes, daughter Desiree A. McKenzie, sister Adrienne “Renee” F. Thronas, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A service is Saturday, March 25, at St. Catherine Church. Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Mass at 10:30 a.m., and burial to follow at St. Catherine Cemetery.
Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
